How do you name your tracks?

do you:

a. come up with really good names before you have made the tracks and then determine which earns the title

b. just make music and work out the name by the way the tracks sound

c. give them really weird names like aphex twin

I start making the music, and then when I finish the first session I click save and then panic because I need a name for the file ... so I glance nervously around the room trying to find a word or image that sounds kind of song-ey.

Then I change it later on because usually the first title sounds really dumb.

exactly.

and it's funny how the biggest crap i do is saved always with the most pretentious names. like "promising" or "great melody"

Posted by NicklessGuy on Jul-12-2004 10:48:

mmm, i only hav things like song-01, song-02, song-03...lol

I don't really put much thought into it, the tune I posted here was called Add More, coz it was a second version of the tune where I....yes...added a bit more.

I called the file "addmore.mp3" and couldn't be bothered thinking up a decent name before I posted it

Haha YES. ;-) I usually just call my tracks by the date I started it, like 05-25-04 for May 25, 2004, etc. When I finish the track is usually when I name it. If I've already named it before I finish it, then I'll probably change the name anyway.

always name them "wow really cool saw melody" or "fucking awesome" etc. And then i forget wich folder ive put it in, and find it again 3 months later, and then i rename it to "here it is" and stuff like that :P its hard to organize over 2000 unfinished projects.

once i'm done with a track (which has only happened a few times ) i usually just sit there and listen with my eyes closed, try to get some imagery from it, and name it
some of my track names: genesis, elevate, lingering fog, helios

I do that to, and I avoid titles like "Sunrise", "sunset", "Motion", "galaxy", "feelings", "pacific", "daydream", "sun", "rise", "dream" etc.

I usually give names in quite a similar way.. I actually just try to feel how it sounds and then give a name that fits

So when I just started producing i gave names like puke, crap, shit, fuck, ..

j/k

Naming your songs after your sex fetishes, nice idea.
