Kill off post counts ? ?

I am glad to see some changes on TA
much appreciated but i had another idea that may help to ease the cases of spam in various forums

How about doing away with the post count ?
any of us that have been here a while know that the post counts mean nothing, too many spammers making lame threads and posts to get high post counts.

or if not a forum wide stoppage of post counts just stop any posts in chill out adding to the post count
i think that prolly many threads and posts would not be started / posted if they dont get another "count" in there.

Just a thought

Peace

i think its a good idea!!
i support - some threads in the chill-out section are disgusting!
but i dunno if it's realy gonne help - i mean , all the flamers (who usually kicked out and sign again) will keep posting...
but still , i think its worth a try - maybe it'll stop all the useless disgusting threads that post in the chill-out room lately...
its a good idea - maybe just need some work on it

I don't think that's a good idea, I like to know how many posts I've done!

Posted by trancaholic on Sep-18-2001 11:38:

I started a thread about this a month ago (or so)

http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...?threadid=16708

and Swamper is working on implementing this.

Maybe you could just do away with the number being displayed and just have it hidden?

yep i've been in a forum that does this. they put the number of posts in the user profile only instead of showing up under their avatar. its not too bad. then that way people would have to click on their profiles to see the number of posts for that user among other user info and my guess is people wouldn't really do that so they don't really know what the post counts are. am i making any sense?
also since it wasn't completely eliminated, the users can have a look at their own post count if they are that curious. *shrugs* anything is better than how its done now.

congratiolations wicked neo

only now i noticed that swamper kill the post count in the chill-out room...

Posted by KaNoS on Sep-21-2001 03:28:

Arrow

disappear them, not only do not show anything of interesnt, but increase stupid post

like if you go to humor section there are like 7 answers to each thread that just say lol. or questions in music discusion that are answered by I dont know, and if u hide it, still many people will want to raise them because of title changin priviliges.

My sugestion: Make title changin avaible if u have been active for 2 months and eliminate post counts

Posted by rockster77 on Sep-22-2001 04:02:

yeah...i also like to know how many posts i've made...but i just don't see why anyone would post just to add to their count...it makes no sense. is there some kind of competition to see who can post the most. who cares. get a life. i think the moderators should take note of the useless posters and get rid of them. my opinion.

Posted by Phazon on Sep-22-2001 05:42:

Then how will i get my own TA status?!?!!

Posted by KaNoS on Sep-23-2001 06:00:

mmm...english, not my natal language

titles= tranceaddict status

well the quote from Phazon should show you why ppl post to add to their post count, so they can get that all important TA Status.

Maybe that should be killed off too ?
its all very nice and stuff to have things like that but when ppl make 400 useless posts so they can get that status is sad.
It does seem to be a competition on here to get the most posts, and ppl are making one word replys to get an extra count.

put it this way, if when Swamper first put TA.com online and had never had a post count system on it, would there be so much bickering and crying now about post counts ?

That is ridiculous, it will never solve a thing. I've never heard of a worse idea than this.

PS: I got absolutely no idea about how much work it would be to subtract all the post from the Non-Music-Related-Sections?

so it would look like:

Wasmario
110post(music related)
815post(total and only visible to maself)

and make this with all members!!

is this an idea??

KarateKid

Yeah!
Thats a great idea neo.It wauld surely stop losers from spaming
Have you told Swamper about this great idea.

Posted by Taub on Sep-27-2001 00:53:

i just noticed it now....there are no more post counts i think

Posted by JdDark on Sep-27-2001 14:22:

maybe this would be easier, peeps cant change their status untill one of the mods sees that he/she are posting in a good way, music-related and that the person isn't a spammer, then we tell swamper bout it, and send that person a pm telling you'll be able to change your status or maybe an automised mailing system

Posted by Fundamental on Sep-27-2001 15:12:

I think it's a good idea to axe the post counts. Hopefully now people will stop pointless spamming. But I hope the TA status' remains... There must be another fairer way to decide status...

aha.. I was wondering how i could change it... Now i know why

But it seems like my status should be supreme... I've seen other Ta's with lower posts that are already supreme..

But that doesn't care... I would like to change it.

And the post accounts doesn't bother me, so you could get rid of it!

Hello!

These are the dummest suggestions I have ever heard of....I mean there isn't any post count anymore, and were screwing everything up just because people are 'regulating' what people can post...if its a dumb post i can understand. If it was about what they ate for dinner 2 weeks ago, or that they think poop is cool, I dont care, but we shouldn't punish everyone who actually contributes. we should just take care of the people who spam/flame/whatever by deleting them or their posts. Put them in TA Jail. whatever, just dont punnish everyone else. Me personally like knowing how many posts I have done, and look foward to getting 400 posts to change my status.....I dont post all the time about war and peace, but at least im contributing my opinion to the thread discussion.

Posted by boy_luke_y2k on Sep-29-2001 22:52:

Cool

i think it doesnt matter how many posts you have made, as long as they are valid, and what you believe in, i think that choosing your own status inly means something if you have put in meaningful posts, and not just a load of crap, and makin webmasters decide if you have made worthy enought posts to change your status, will only increase their workload, why bother doing that? only post what is valuable.

Posted by rockster77 on Oct-02-2001 12:44:

i was wondering where i could check how many posts i've made...somebody mentioned that you could look in your personal profile and it would be there....but i can't find it.

....also, i've noticed that the new "tranceaddicts in training" have visible post counts...anyone alse notice this?

Posted by Linx_da_cat on Oct-02-2001 14:27:

if you click your profile. the button/link in your posts, not your main profile button at the top right.

as for the trancEaddict in training issue...i don't think i've noticed..but i'll take ya word for it.
