Got my self a G4

Hey everybody. Had a quick question regarding hardware integration using a laptop.
I got a brand spanking new Powerbook G4(fucking love it...) and was wondering what kinda software and hardware I would need to 'connect' my monitors, mixer, desktopPC and laptop. I'm still kinda new to the whole hardware thing, and eventually I know with my intense interest in electronic music electronics that I will learn what I need to know, but I have no idea where to begin right now...I've heard of the MAudio Audiophile FIrewire interfaces, but I don't know how they work or what their core purpose is...
Also, what would be a quality soundcard(external preferably)for audio engineering purposes for a PC and Mac laptop?
THanks again.

Help me, help you.

You need to be more specific. What are you trying to do? What do you want to be able to do in the future? I think you are just too vague to get good answers.

yeah it really depends on what you are trying to connect and fo rwhat purpose. if you are trying to record you mixes on your g4. then the m-audio external devices are a pretty good and relatively inexpensive way to input your line from your mixer into your comp.

if you are gonna be doing any producing and want your monitors to run off your comp the audiofile will do that as well. then your signal will go into the computer finrst and then out to the monitor.

as for software, any basic audio editing or softsynth will record your stuff

just be a little more specific and you will get more specific answers.

Fair enough.
Yes, I plan on producing in the future(maybe in a year or so, when I save up enough funds to buy MIDI gear). As for right now, all I need is a method to connect my laptop, desktop PC, mixer and monitors for the following purposes:

-Production(on laptop and PC)
-Playback of audio through the monitors off of my PC and or laptop
-Recording
-Utilizing laptop and PC for live software applications(i.e Ableton) during mixing.

Thanks again.

theres no way to play back through monitors, i just got a powerbook myeslf and tried, theres no way

garagaband has a feature, but all the monitoring is software not hardware, so theres a delay.. which sucks for beat matching. i recommend u get some cables, hook up your monitors straight to your mixer, which is what i did

Wait, so your telling me that even though I use an interface to wire my monitors, mixer and latop together, I won't be able to playback audio from my latop through my monitors?
I understand that there is a latency factor involved when you run your mixing through a laptop and out of the monitors, but my monitors are directly connected to my mixer, so everything is cool now.
But until I get me some production gear, all I want to do is run some audio files off of my Powerbook and STILL have my monitors able to be used for mixing as well...
There's gotta be a way...
