Looks like commercials are now starting to use non-cheesy EDM

I was just watching TV and saw this commercial for Hummer and they played LFO - Freak. How cool is that? :P

Posted by beema on Jul-20-2004 21:33:

not cool, H2's are teh ghey

Posted by Psionic on Jul-20-2004 21:35:

I don't remember if it was for the Hummer 2.

Posted by torontotrance on Jul-20-2004 21:40:

starting?

nah that's nothing new

just most songs went cheese after the commercials

i remember on one commercial they played chicane - saltwater, i think it was an irish traveling agency or somethin

The WORST I've ever heard was the yucky Crystal Method-rip-off music used for some car commercial ages ago. It was a direct rip of "Busy Child" and I thought it was downright disrespectful. Not an homage since that single was making peeps storm the dancefloors at that time in the mid-late 90s, and it was dishonorable. It was sooo bad I can't even remember what the car was, but if anyone remembers, please let me know so I can find that commercial again and laugh my head off -- and then replace the soundtrack with the REAL deal. I'm pretty tolerant of such things most of the time as you know, so yeah... this had to have been REALLY bad

Nissan used Air- Surfing on a Rocket in one of their commercials.

I <3 Air.

yep the Irish Tourist Board used that for their "Visit Ireland" adverts, used to like that tune really fits with the advert

I hope the good trance never becomes popular.

I say we make a petition to to have a world law started to stop adverts and MTV playing trance music.

I dont think you have to worry. The masses are never going to think EDM is cool. We are the dorks and they like it that way...

...but so do we.

I think hat H2 commercial rocks. I actually kinda like hearing EDM in movies & commercials even if it is cheezy stuff its netter than none.

One of those TV programs, maybe Without a Trace? or thirdwatch used Hemstock & Jennings - Mirage (of Hope)

Air is pop music, not EDM. Not that there's anything wrong with that as long as it's good pop music though. (and no, pop doesn't necessarily mean Britney Spears)

I remember Alice Deejay - Better Off Alone, was remixed into "Do you really want a Clone" for some Computer manufacturing company.

Posted by itsamemario on Jul-21-2004 20:01:

if anyone here remember the prog Rebirth, there was a small collection of tunes that followed, and one of them were called "TgV's Kilomix"..
I heard a part from that exact song on a commercial a couple of years ago...

HAHAHA! YOU TOO EH?

This makes me laugh so hard, I think it was actually for IBM... and you know, that parody of the song had an ironic message, considering how many other trance songs sound like it :P

There was another commercial in that series spoofing something else, but I'm not sure what it was. Ah.

Well, it's electronically produced, but I suppose it's not dance music.

It's EM.

If that's what we're going by then Eminem, Beyonc and Missy Elliot are all electronic music.

In the US you can hardly see any music videos at all on MTV. They throw an hour of music vids in a day I think. And they are all rap/hip hop and maybe a few Britney Spears type artists as well. I dont think we have to worry about them spending any of their precious 60 minutes of videos a day on EDM.

Jesus, what country do you lot live in? Proper EDM gets more play in adverts than just about anywhere else outside clubs.

Well, if you really want to get picky.

They are also all dance music, which would classify them under the greater heading of Electronic Dance Music.

More to the point of the thread: For some reason lots of shampoo commericals I see have a jungle beat in the background.
