Hernan Cattaneo

Just wanted to get a feel for Hernan's international reputation as the idiots here in Denver, CO, for the most part, have no idea who he is. I think he is phenomenal, but have only seen him once in Miami, cause he doesn't get booked here. Any thoughts?

HUGE! he is

Hernan Cattaneo is a huge international deejay, who was originally born in Argentina and his fame has grown in recent years. I have not seen him myself but every person that I know that has seen him live, says he is great.

Stoned @Space for WMC was definitely fantastic. But that is my only reference point other than his Renaissance Masters which I think is excellent. Tried to burn his South America unsuccessfully. I just think he has a really different style that is starting to become more and more prevalent among proggie dj's.

I've never seen him, so I cannot comment on him live but everyone that I know that has seen him says he is worth the price of admission.

ive seen him three times (he opened for oakenfold for the bunkka tour, then he came on his own back in january, and then again about two weeks ago) and he keeps getting better. i kind of like the fact that a lot of people here dont really know him because then it doesnt get jammed when he comes and you actually have room to dance and enjoy yourself.

I agree to some extent. But he is coming to Chicago fairly frequently based on your experiences alone. I don't even think he has been to Denver yet, and as a promoter would be afraid of booking him because of the lack of recognition. Is it the same in Chi town as it is here? Do 90% of the scensters not know him?

Anyone who is into progressive house and doesn't know Hernan Cattaneo should be ashamed of themselves.

I agree. That is my gripe about the place I live. Denver is pretty into progressive, but a lot of people don't have a clue.

the last time he came there were a lot of people that showed up so im guessing he is starting to get some recognition, at least since the last time he came. but like UWM said, people should know who he is by now.

I don't think hernan would post here, but he does post in his forum.

It was a blast meeting Hernan when he came down here in houston. He's on of my favorite dj's of alltime so it was a dream come true meeting this guy. He says he enjoyed his stay here, and wishes to come back. I can't wait for him to come back. =D

Just look at him.. so glorious =)

Posted by NiteMer on Jul-21-2004 22:18:

What is his forum? How does one get on it?

The guy is incredible - possibly the best live mixer that I have ever heard. Flawless every time that I have seen him.

Posted by NiteMer on Jul-21-2004 23:29:

Yeah. I'm into really technical mixing and he sounded flawless the one time I saw him. I kind of wish I could go back to the ignorant status I had before I started spinning. Unless a dj is technically sound, nowadays, and has some sort of programming, I get bored. I used to go to the club and dance my ass off. Now I only dance when I hear something new and interesting, which at least in some sense, Hernan provides. Although it is progressive it is also housy at times and changes throughout his sets. Nick Warren does a great job at this too or Sander K. More dj's should.

I've seen Hernan twice, the first time at a big event where he had to come on after James Zabiela and the second time at a club gig. The first time he was crap (he even admitted this afterwards) - just chuggity bog-prog that didn't go anywhere for 2 hours. The second time though probably ranks as the best straight-up progressive set I've ever heard. Just five hours of relentless, driving progressive (then some breaks at the end).

So I guess he can be a bit hit and miss, but yeah, based on the second gig I have much love.

I wish he would come to NYC...I'd die to see him
