Another 'how do I make this sound' thread!

I've noticed a nice little sound in quite a few trance tunes at the minute (a lot of Anjuna/Ronski Speed stuff) and I was wondering if anyone could give em any pointers on how to recreate it in software.
I've attached the sound (it's the crunchy, filtered synth in the middle, not the bass/percussion obviously )
It sounds like a synthesised voice of some sort but I'm not sure.

Thanks in advance

(BTW please don't flame me for copying a sound!)

Whoops, okay, I've fixed it now.

Posted by Vizay on Jul-23-2004 12:49:

it's a very short sample but it sounds to me that it's the same sound discussed in this thread:

Thansk Vizay - heres another sample of the kind of thing I'm after
(from empyreal suns dark 2 light) again, not the kick/bass/perc but the
little synth hits over the top.

It sounds like a tb303 synth with some distortion/overdrive on it?

Posted by Joi Lamusic on Jul-25-2004 11:03:

Yeah...I also think it is 303 sound... If I understan right what Stuart Silver is after...

Posted by Strep on Jul-25-2004 14:12:

Made this with Pro53 going through Warp:

Thanks for the response guys - I thought it sounded a bit more complex than a 303, but I'll give that a go - see what it produces!

Posted by Vizay on Jul-25-2004 20:24:

can tell ya right off that it aint a 303, defenetly not

it's the outback fx too.. it should work with distortion but i still can't reproduce it

Posted by Vizay on Jul-25-2004 20:30:

you shouldn't need any dist on it...just run it with high frequency settings

I can't remember the settings I used for WARP but the synth patch you can have (for the pruposes of seeing what settings I used - use the patch as a basis to get your own sound as opposed to just ripping it off as your own)

So...that wasn't 303? Really?

Any ideas how to get that in Reason then?

Does anyone else find that you start trying to make 1 sound and
end up with something completley different!! It's not really the
kind of thing I was originally after, but I thought it was a cool
sound - check it out - sounds very Outback!.

http://www.apws09.dsl.pipex.com/OutBackSynth.mp3

thecYrus - was this similar to the kind of sound you were after?

PS: It's 10 minutes work with no mastering/tweaking so please don't
hammer me if you think it sounds sh*te
