I wonder if this is where Born Slippy NUXX came from.....
Ok I discovered this by accident when renaming some Mp3s yesterday.
Everyones always wondered by oakey titled his Born Slippy remix "Born Slippy NUXX". Wonder if this is where it comes from....
If you're touch typing, your right hand effectivly controls the right side of the keyboard, and the left hand, the left side. However, if you dont look at the keyboard when you're typing, you can easily move your hand so its on the wrong key. In this way, you type one character to the left/right each time.
Heres an example.
Typing 'hello' with one character to the left of each key gives 'gwkki'. (Look at your keyboard) I think Oakey did this when he was labelling his mix. Suppose his left hand was in the correct part of the keyboard when he is typing out the word 'mix', however his right hand is one key to the left, as above.
Then, instead of 'mix', you get 'nux'. -> N and U are one key to the left of M and I respectivly.
He thought this was cool and added another x, giving NUXX.
A good theory, or a crap one????
I should probably point out that Oakenfold wasn't involved at all.
I'd say its a really far-fetched theory, but it is an interesting one
One question though, why would he call it simply "Born Slippy Mix", instead of "Born Slippy (..... Mix)"? I know when the NUXX is used that doesn't matter, but if he made the mix-nux mistake, then why didn't he call it .... nuxx. Or maybe he left the dotted part out because the nuxx thing was nicely sounding by itself
Ohwell.
I thought the nuxx version meant it had vocals
PS - Crap theory because Oaky was not the firt to do Born Slippy Nuxx, it is a remix after all.
it means that we're all going to die tomorrow when the asteroid hits earth
or it may as well do for all the relevance the theory has

The original instrumental version was title Born Slippy. When Underworld released the vocal version, they tacked on the .nuxx
It's an interesting theory, and a fun one at that too.
One thing's for sure: deciphering the lyrics of "Born Slippy" (and many other Underworld works for that matter) ain't no peas in a pod!

| Many of the band's lyrics were collected on regular missions into the seedy world of bars and clubs around Romford and East End London. It was this quest for lyrics that Karl blames for his past alcoholism. Born Slippy's lyrics bearing some testament to this fact...if you spend too much time in bars you end up drinking, which was what happened to Karl. Now clean Karl has a tougher time writing but the sound is fresher and perhaps better for it.. Beaucoup Fish proving this point. |
