James Zabiela - Live @ Simon's Review

amazing

Me, Jen, and Santi got to Simon's about 10:30ish and caught the end of Hydra's show. Props for dropping Lo-step - Burma (Involver 12" Mix). James came on about 11:00 and banged the night away straying away from the usual prog/breaks mix and dropped alot of techno. I'm off to the beach but pics and more review later.

Some tracks I remember:

Dirty Gringos - Cowbell (Remix)
Goldie Presents Metalheads - Inner City Life 2004
Perc - Ice Cream for Kenton (Spartak Tek Dub)
Sven Sarvarko - Transition
Weekend World - Straight out of Stokey
Blur - Song 2 (Ivan Gough & Grant Smillie Mix)

Yo you did a pretty job yourself. I missed the majority of your set but besides Lo-step 'Burma'I think I also remember Uberzone & Rennie Pilgrem 'Cous Cous (Royale Mix)'. I'd like to know the ids of the (2) tracks you played before James set. They were massive. Anyways Of course my review is biased because I love breaks and James but I had so much fun last night. We got there around 10:30 to an almost empty club and I meet up with Tom who drove all the way from ATL for this show. Hardcore man! Nice meeting ya and I hope you enjoyed listening to the cd on the ride home. James Imo didn't do that many dj tricks compared to the other times I've seen him. He did play loads of more techno. From 11 - 2 the crowd was loving it. At one point he either dropped the original Beastie Boys track or sampled Matthew Dekay vs Beastie Boys - Intergalactic 'MMmmm Drop!' Went over well in the club. Highlights of the night were def hearing 'Inner City Life' and 'Straight out of Stokey.'

the two tracks before zabiela were:

Pink Floyd vs Oliver Leib---Hypnotic Checker
Panoptic---Harmonic Gems (red and blue mix)

yes you are right, both massive

Thanks for the ids! Did you end up premiering your new track?

Does anyone know the name of the track that Hydra played at the very beginning of his set, maybe track 2 or 3...it was a girl's voice, the only words I remember are "move to your body" or something like that. He played it right before "I can be your cure..."
I wanna know it.

Oh my god!!!!! JZ totally killed it. The highlight of my night was when he played the very last track "woohoo", I forget the name of the song, but I know it was some sort of remix. He definitely proved why he is my favorite dj. How he scratched, took the breakdowns into efx land, etc.... He is the man. After he ended, I tried to make my way to the dj booth. There was some guy that I noticed up in the dj booth who was outside it. I gave a promo track I made to him and told him to give it James. So whoever you were, I hope you gave it to him. All in all, an amazing night. Thanks James.

P.S. Whoever the dancer was on the bar, it was nice staring at her ass cheaks all night long.

Zabiela tore it up. I read in a lot of ATL reviews that he was using too many effects and didn't have enough flow to his set... well, maybe he was just having an off night, because that wasn't the case at all. He seemed to use the effects and tricks less often than I'm used to hearing from him, but they were well timed and executed. And the flow was great, he kept the whole place rocking during his entire set. Hydra did a great job warming up, but it was just me and another guy dancing to his set. I guess people were holding out for JZ to come on. A great set though (and props for dropping Burma). Btw I got a copy of static ocean and it rocks (post a tracklist!)

Simons is a nice club, but getting water was a bitch (fight your way up to the bar and get a tiny little cup). And the immediate fire drill style evacuation after James' last track was a downer (no encore's or autographs or anything). Oh well, minor complaints I suppose. Oh yeah, shouts to Alex (dahippyman) for the mad hookup. Good meeting you bro.

Btw, I also heard a Blue Monday remix and track 4 from the Marconi set
