Review: Ultra Spin 5 - Push, Marco V, Astral Projection, Dave Ralph & Mark Oliver

All i can say is this party was great.

It was a Kool Haus-only night for me so i cant comment on Dave Ralphs performance.. got there at around 12:30ish & got in thru guestlist lineup (thx John) real quick...

Marco V just started & was playing quality tech-trance.. i was going outta control right when i got into KH! Think one of the few tracks i recognized was Automanual..?

Astral Projection - I rarely listen to psy but these guys are crazy. Both thier music and on-stage drinking during a live PA. Shame they had some technical difficulties w/the sound cutting out..

M.I.K.E. - Only heard about 2 hours of thier set before leaving at 6:15.. wish i coulda heard more. I DIED hearing Strange World get dropped, and other tracks like The Legacy & F Massif - Somebody (Ferry corsten mix)

by the time i left w/my 2 buddies my voice was wrecked from all the screaming and i was covered in champagne from Astral Projection (who kept shooting that stuff at the crowd). Whatta night...

BIG UP DEEP GROOVE for holding it down PROPPA in the KH!
Deko-Ze ROCKS it all the time! Marco V was sick! Astral Projection ... RAVE ON! And finaly, M.I.K.E ... the wait was worth it! Strangeworld, the Legacy (Club Mix) & UNIVERSAL NATION was all DROPPED!

Thanks for all those who came out to one of the best Ultra Spin Event!

Goooooooooooooooood Night!

Marco ripped it

Got there for 11 and was worried about how the night would go. Mark Oliver had some good energy flowing, but not what I wanted for the night. Marco V put down a good set and got me ready for Astral Projection who make the night worth the wait.. M.I.K.E. spun a great set. Was happy to hear Strange World, Naranja, and Pushin on - fred Baker.. Great night out.

Too lazy to write a review now..

But.. Astral Projection's behaviour after and during the set was [EDIT] very very very unprofessional and embarassing. I could not believe my eyes when I saw what I saw.

More on that later

Are you speaking of the Vodka...or perhaps the 'magic' of an Apple Powerbook. I got a close look at them on stage, please tell me that set wasn't all pre-recorded.

wow what an amazing night!!!...that was the best time i've had at guv since scott bond in may!!!...my girlfriend wanted to enter through the drink, so we were dressed up a bit more the normal for going...it was well worth entering through there cause i really enjoyed the house music they were playing on skybar!!!

marco v was amazing when he came on...his stuff had so much energy and i loved dancing to it!!!...i caught only about 30minutes of astral projection...they were good at the beginning of the set, lots of energy...but when i came back at around 4ish waiting for PUSH to come on, they didn't rap up until about 4:20, and the last 20minutes all sounded the same, and i was just like get off already, cause my gf and i were getting tired and i wanted to at least catch some of push.

I spent the nite constantly going through all the rooms, and i loved that, i have the best time at guv when i go exploring, we spent most the time in the kool haus, and the sky bar for most of the nite, a little bit of time in the guv, but not to much...the first time i walked in the main room, mark was playing shapeshifters - lola's theme!!! i was so surprised to hear him play that....love that song

finally push came on and he was great...unfortunately i only got to hear 45mins of his set cause we left by 5am, but it was sooo good!!! i couldnt be more pleased leaving after the thrillseekers - syntheasia!!! wow, that just made my nite...one disappointment is i don't like how he came on so late...cause he was getting no where near the response marco v was getting even though everyone was hyping up push...cause everyone was tired and only a handful of ppl were still going nuts! (like me on syntheasia ) that song woulda gotten so much attention if played at 2am..but everyone seemed a bit tired by that point.

oh yeh, and for all the guv haters, the capacity was amazing in all the rooms the whole nite (got a little busy on skybar at one point, but most of the time there was plenty of space) and i was able to walk through the kool haus, orange room, charlies, the drink, and the main room with no problems at all! anyone that didn't come to this really missed out, cause they missed a truly good nite at guvernment!!!

funniest part of the night : seeing Marco V take a sip of Hype, the energy drink. funniest facial expression!

Marco V played a solid tech-trance set, airing more on the side of melodic trance than tech, but it was still great. that kill bill remix was tight!

Astral Projection... don't get me wrong, i freakin loved hearing "people can fly" "let there be light" "mahadeva" and others.. but doesn't a LIVE PA constitute actually playing on the keyboards and such?! and their drinking.. overall, was severely disappointed performance-wise. oh well.

and M.I.K.E. .. WOW! hearing all those old classics, hands in the air, building up and building up.. unbelieveable. surprised, but glad, that he played naranja. seems like everyone has this in their playlist now

hardly took any pics, but hopefully i'll remember to upload them after i crash from exhaustion.

Everytime i went into the KH it seemed kind of boring to me. The party was going by 12 in the main room and dave ralph was kicking some pretty good techno and a bit of prog as well.

I guess DJs arent supposed to drink just like teachers never go to the bathroom and parents never have sex?

LOL

Did you see what happened ??

If not - then shut up !

If you did, then don't compare this to "teachers never go to the bathroom and parents never have sex"

LOL indeed!

i counted two bottles of JD, one of vodka, and some others. drinking is fine with me, but at least have some moderation. at least their drinking did not affect their "live pa".. oh wait.. nm..

Posted by Jayx1 on Jul-25-2004 15:22:

im just going by "and the drinking"

...damn people are touchy

Posted by Jayx1 on Jul-25-2004 15:24:

those who live in glass houses.........

Next time go to a club sober and then we can talk about who does what and how much

Personally i think excessive drinking is ridiculous but if thats their bag, so be it

Funny how he got flamed on this board a few months ago for playing that exact song at the end of the night.

yeah what did happen? Surely it cant be "excessive drinking" that has your panties in a knot?

One slightly wierd thing they did was they kept shaking up bottles of champagne and spraying them at ppl while walking thru the crowd - long after their performance.
"Hey look he's from AP!"
*SPRAAAAAAAY*

Dunno if that is what you guys are talking about tho.

It's not the drinking that was the problem it's how they were doing it, plus they've done something quite, well I won't speak of, it's a shocker though, if you seen it you wouldn't be commenting they way you usually do

Marco V f**king OWNED me.

I had to shake the man's hand when he was done...wow...that was my first time hearing him and despite going mainly to hear the other two headliners, I didn't move from the front of the stage for Marco's entire set. I now have a DJ to add to the list of people I will *never* miss when they come here. Huge thumbs up for that wicked tech-trance set Marco!!!!!!!

Astral Projection...forgettable...didn't get into their set at all and so I spent much of it on the patio...their set was noise compared to Marco...maybe just my opinion, but it was actually kind of awful. They looked pretty sketchy too...?

M.I.K.E...dropped some awesome tracks...but Marco destroyed me earlier and I had no energy left in me...just chilled, listening to most of his set before leaving. Caught a bit of Dave Ralph going to and from the patio...fun stuff whenever I passed through.

Awesome crowd...it was nice meeting a ton of people...Tordan...one of the very few TAs I recognized and finally met...cool chatting with ya! Jay, too bad you had to take off so early...Met some crazy ass Guv '1st timers' who spent their entire night on the patio for some reason, lol.

Thank you WEMF for taking sooooo many people out of the city, resulting in a non-packed KH and Guv...lots of space, no sketchy people, etc. and Marco just kicked my ass...awesome night!!!

time to sleep...
