Yup team Sweden gets crushed, team USA goes home crying like bitches and the others do as well

I don't think it's a 3 game final this time. Check the dates...I'm pretty sure it's only a one off like the Olympics this time around, which sucks in my opinion. But then again...if it had been like that in 96, we would have beat the yanks. They're crap this year anyway and despite some eyebrow raising choices by Gretzky, I still think we'll win quite handily.

does anyone know if the games are going to be televised here in the states? possibly espn?

Posted by PhloTron on Aug-08-2004 17:36:

Looking forward to it....too bad it will be the last hockey for a while unless the tele decides to carry the Sweedish elite league or Major Juniors in place of the lockout....bahhh.

Posted by torontotrance on Aug-16-2004 19:19:

All of Canada's games will be carried live on CBC in Canada fo sho. I'm working at night during some of the games, bastard company I work for, need to find a full time job, so I can quit this job and watch my beloved team kick the tar out of the world.

Posted by Laszlo on Aug-17-2004 00:44:

If Theodore gets to play, Canada will win it, but he won't so Sweden is going to whipe the floor with your asses

Posted by torontotrance on Aug-17-2004 03:31:

The cherry picking pretty boy swedes beating us, hell your best players can't even beat our second stringers (World Championships 2003 and 2004 as evidence). Canada will win it again, history shows the future and it does with the World Cup.

Posted by karatekid099 on Aug-17-2004 17:36:

As long as Patrick "Hat-Trick" Marleau gets his 3goal game, then i'll root for the Canadians.

Otherwise GO GERMANY!

Definently going to be watching CBC for this. America's going to have shit coverage for this.

major letdown? And who's going to beat us? The USA? that's a joke...the average age on that team is well into the 30s and there is NO Mike Richter, the sole reason why you won it in 96.

i didnt say that we would win it, but that you guys have pretty high expectations and anything less than winning it all would be a disappointment. if i had to take a guess i would say that sweden has a pretty good chance at it if there defense can hold up (besides canada).

i found the tv schedule for people that get ESPN
http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/world...s/story?page=tv

we always have expectations of winning everything...that comes with it. And the majority of the time, our boys get it done. Sweden are always picked to do big things, but never do in the end.

They dont support or show this in the US, so I have no complete experience with the series. From seeing it last year though, it was really valiant how Canada physically beat up every team they couldnt match skill for skill. Rooting for Canada here is like rooting for the Yankees. Big whoop|

Posted by Dmatrox on Aug-24-2004 00:56:

does anyone know the TV broadcasts for this? i checked CBC and TSN and no dice.

haha...Canadians can't match European teams skill for skill? Physical play IS a skill you moron! The best players in the history of the game are Canadian and most of the greats now (especially goalies) are Canadian. You're so full of crap. We invented the game...if you can't take a bit of checking, don't play or watch it, or better yet...just watch the panzy European leagues. Finesse passing and fancy skating is all fine and dandy, but it doesn't get you far when you're on your ass.

About the scheduling...if you check TSN's World Cup section, they have all the games listed. ESPN does as well. Canada's pool schedule is as follows. The final, I know for sure, is a one game final and is to be played on September 14th.

Vs. USA - August 31st, 7pm in Montreal
Vs. Slovakia September 1st, 7pm in Montreal
Vs. Russia September 4th, 7pm in Toronto

unfortunately i will have to say canada will take it..... i suppose we'll see though

OK, Im a moron...youre the Yankees of International hockey - what?!? You invented the sport!! No kidding!

Yes, physicality is a skill, but when you are just skating around pounding Forsbergs face into the ice it does demonstrate a LACK of normal talent. Plus when the country that invented the sport has the biggest pool of potential players and then goes on to beat up on countries with 4 million players it gets pretty lame|

I find it funny how everyone's picking Canada already, yet they lost to the US just last night in exhibition...

I'd say Finland is the team to watch out for. Remember, Kiprusoff is their goalie, and their team ain't too bad either. Altho I hope the Americans can at least do semi-decently like they did in the Olympics. I'm watching ever game, might be the only hockey I get to watch all year what with the lockout coming.

Posted by karatekid099 on Aug-24-2004 20:29:

whos the US starting goalie, DiPietro or Esche?

Nevertheless I agree that Finland is a big sleeper. They have solid goaltending from Kipper to Toskala to Kari Lehtonen. And remember, Teemu Selanne always tries harder in international competitions.
