wow what an amazing night, i was tempted not to go but now im so happy i did. if anyone got some pictures or a set list post em here!
id love to know what fellow ta'ers thought.im still coming down from last night, i was verry impressed.
PS what was that stuff that was coming down from the cealing??? felt like snowflakes
I guess I'll put my thoughts on this thread. The other one is getting too crowded.
Overall, the night was alright. Some tunes I recognized were:
Digital Pressure - Aftershock
Randy Katana - In Silence (Txixtarro Remix)
Paul van Dyk ft Second Sun - Crush (? Remix)
ASYS - No More Fucing Rock N Roll
Randy Katana - One Solid Wave (Sam Sharp Remix)
Feel free to add on.
Comparing PvD's show in Houston to the one in Dallas, they both have its ups and downs. Club Rich's (well what used to be anyways) was a lot better in terms of keeping the temperature at a decent level. Seriously, I thought I was going to die at club Liquid with the catastrophic temperatures and the plethora of sweaty fatasses rubbing against me. Even thinking about it just destroys the prospect of getting a boner for a good month.
However, I thought the fan base was pitiful in Houston. About halfway through the set, you can see the majority of the people drop out like flies. But the place was less crowded, which should be a plus I suppose. Club Liquid was packed with people and all of them had high energy from start to finish. At least that's what I thought when the Houstonians miserably failed to keep a "Paul van Dyk!" chant intact for a period of at least 2 seconds.
But overall, I had a good time, and it was nice to meet the TAs from Houston (and some from elsewhere). Be looking forward to seeing you guys whenever someone good comes up again at your town.
And some additional words:
James - Sorry for bothering you. Everything somehow got pieced together.
Emerson - Fat chicks do NOT need love. More cushin' for the pushin' nothing.
Matthias - Many thanks for keeping my "For an Angel" vinyl safe for PvD to autograph.
Yea, the fanbase wasnt as I would expect for PvD last night. The chant was pitiful, but thats what you get when you get people who are there just to be there and not there because of PvD. The dancefloor did die off and I was shocked to see that, but that gave me more room to dance
Maybe it was me peaking but I thought that there was an awesome vibe on the floor for those that were there on the floor, how few there were towards the end. And did Tobias get his entire PvD colletion autographed last night????

now for review.
even though i spend most of my time outside or in the red room trying to keep cool. i don't really feel like i missed much.
each time i would come back in the last song i left sounded quite similar to the one playing as soon as i walked in.
didn't hear one tune that would keep my up for the next few days going absolutely mad trying to ID it. that being said, his set was good, great mixing, tracks were full of energy and everything, but nothing to ROCK MY WORLD. guess i need more variety now.
packed for a sunday i would say.
nice meeting you new guys. sorry we got dispersed but it gets hard to keep track of everyone. hope you guys enjoyed yourselves and that we made you feel right at home. cheers...

He plays nothing but tracks full of energy. He doesnt build his sets up and doesnt take you on an emotional rollercoaster of any sorts.
I've only seen him twice before, about 18 months ago in Dallas and in May of 2002 in Melbourne, and both times his sets were just as Santos/Joel described... redundant tunes, no building of his set etc. Both times he closed with For An Angel (E-Werk 99 Club Mix) which would had to have been the highlight of each set. That's why I wasn't so eager to drive to Houston to see him, fearing it would be a similar experience, and it sounds like it was.
Overall I had a great time with a major surprise at the end. Thanks to Sean Carnahan for getting me back to meet Paul for 30 seconds while he signed 10 cds I was able to collect. I would have had 45 RPM but I returned it for being defective..rather than getting another working copy from amazon they refunded my money. Which was good they did but....I wanted the damn cd lol.
Paul's set met expectations... I have high expectations when I go to see him, so that means he did do a hell of a job. Loved the new reworks. But I cant say that I was overly blown away. Maybe its because I have seen him 5 times now, or that the music was loud/vibrant enough (which wouldnt have been his fault, but the sound system....and I saw Neil had told him to turn the volume down a little bit. Maybe thats what pissed him off lol. But I saw a much better set in Dallas at Liquid and Club Blue the year before.
Paul didn't seem like he was in a good mood, and when I got to meet him they didnt want anyone talking too much while in the room. I briefly said how I enjoyed his work and it really meaning alot...he seemed to think well of it and was cool signing everything. He looked tired as hell though and it got me thinking about the pressure and bullshit he must go through flying all the damn time, lil chance to rest and chill, time spent away from the wife and kids. If he wasnt in the best of moods I could totally understand.
All in all, good meeting everyone and I cant wait until he comes to Austin. If anyone can ID a setlist, it would be most appreciated
I liked the set, despite the others thinking it was boring. I suppose you might need to know the songs beforehand before Paul reworks them. That way, you would see them as good tracks with a extra kick to kill the dancefloor, as opposed to just another wtf?! song with a BUM BUM BUM BUM beat. I felt a bit of both last night.
heh i know what you guys are talking about, the dance floor did die out except for me, i was the 6'7 guy in the white collard shirt with horizontal black stripes jumping up and down the whole fucking time. (sorry if i got in your view
)
i loved the energy, it being my first PvD show, i never expected to have such a good time.
keep the pics coming!!!!
my important review......
First off, glad everyone had a good time. Overall, it was what I expected. I heard a couple good tracks id like to get ID'ed.
Unfortunately, it being on a sunday night kind of made things difficult for me. My friend bailed at the last minute at about 7pm cuz of work, and I just told him to fuck it if he didnt want to go. Other guy that was gonna go bailed as well.
Anyway, I also decided I wasnt going to drink either. And that really didnt help. Was already broke from $7 parking, and the $27 entrance anyway. I'm drug free, and I listen 24/7 sober, but I usually like to have a little drink in me atleast, when I see a DJ live, to aid the enjoyment. Drink or not, im usually pretty relaxed when listening live, unless its just plain off the hook (like armin etc).
So after getting numerously bumped into by this group of people who went "to see some big german DJ", I too took my breaks to get some fresh air. (I always feel the need to at richs)
Overall, the night was good. I'll admit tho, this was my second time seeing him (last time in dallas), and his set in dallas was a bit more well lined with excellent energy throughout.
Anyway, I'll try and make the next dinner. I'm tired of running into you guys and not being able to talk. Glad to finally meet you Screen as well. I know ive met vanfecto before and numberjuan, but damnit emerald, I met you at Jules with vanfecto. Well, it was more of a group hello than anything.
Overall, glad I went.

. too bad they didnt want anyone videotaping anything... i had like 4 blank tapes to capture the night... but ohwell.ummm wow
Hey guys,
It was cool meeting everyone. I really liked PvD's opening tracks! One problem though. Either my tolerance for alcohol dropped tremendously in 2 days OR someone slipped something into my drink! I can usually drink around 10-15 drinks before i'm drunk. I had 7 and something hit me like a brick wall. i couldn't walk, i couldn't talk! libby had to drag my ass back to the car! anyway, not that i really needed to explain that but damn, i missed out on a good time!
nice meeting all you guys!
alot of people wanted to see pvd but couldnt because of work. I woulda had to work had I not of requested off AND insisted I wasnt able to work. (I work overnights at Target...FUN
)
I think its safe to say would the show have been on saturday it woulda been more of a crowd. Speaking subjectively, I liked it as it was. Dallas had a packed house and a good vibe, but you just about had to fight your way through the crowd to get anywhere. I'm not as good with standing in crowds as I used to be
getting too old for it I guess. Still had fun though
yea i passed out at work today around 2ish
guess 4:30 isint a great time to go to sleep on a sunday.
Well, I had one HELL of a night. It was great meeting everyone. I want to say thanks to Matthias, Santos and Emerson, Screen, Pete and ZenBudda and everyone else(forgot names, sorry) who helped me feel at home.
It was my first time to see PVD and I really enjoyed it. The snowflakes was a nice touch. Well I'll be at the next big event in Houston so I'll see you guys there.
Devin
Those were snowflakes? Man all this time I thought it was some idiot spitting water from the top level. I kept looking up to see if i could find that asshole to go up there and kick his ass

I know some of yall heard it. Really...that musta came from the old gay Riches or somethin, it isnt needed and is cheesy as hell. Paul's music dont need any help to get a rise outta the crowd as it is. My humble opinion of course..but I dont feel I may be alone here
