Xone 92- Convince me..

Im going to speand alot of money of a new mixer today, so Im asking for peoples personal opinions of the Xone 92, not stats and facts, just opinions of usablity ect. Has anyone used the midi control function ect, how easy is it to add an additional fx unit? Stuff like that?

Xone 092 is an awesome unit. I personally played on the one that Sasha was using when he toured North America, it is the Xone 092 with regular sliding faders, the I used it with Kaos Pad II, which I used two left side channels for send/return. No midi use, so can't say anything about that, but the rest of the mixer I found very user friendly as far as knobs location and feel of them and their turning rotations. Sliding channel faders are smooooooooooooooooooth and cross fader is smooooooooooother than butter, . Personally, I'm still waiting to demo the rotary version of the Xone 092 to make up my mind between the two models.

Cheers...

i have owned both the slider and the rotary.....i have a brand new slider on ebay right now.....

i didn't use midi or effects but here's my opinion.....sound is pretty decent....better than rane 2016.....the knob version was not comfortable with me......compared to vestax pmc 46 mk2 or rane...crossfader curve was very nice filters are nice also....maybe just me but i thought the filters were a little more 'wild' on the 62....i know u can manipulate the filters with some internal setting on the 92....maybe that was it.....i didn't dig any further

there are very solidly built mixers.....the slide version i didn't because the slides were very loose and offered no resisitance what so ever.....i prefer a tighter slide.....i think its over priced

my friend's just arrived yesterday and I got to play on it for a few hours.... here's a review I posted over @ djforums.com....

We'll be using it in a club tonight so I can have a little more to say tomorrow about it...

Well on to the review.....

It's def. a very impressive and intimidating piece of equiptment....

Everything works the same as any other mixer it just seems more intimidating with all the extra knobs....

Sound quality is superb and very clean. You def. need to have this thing turned up to appreciate the sound... If you do not have a decent sound system this is not the mixer for you....I can't wait to hear it @ the club tonight....

The rotary faders are SMOOTH... There really is a difference between rotary/linear faders... It's def. a different way of mixing, but you can rider your mixes FOREVER!!!.... It took awhile to get used to, but once I figured it out.... I was amazed at how easy tit was to keep the mix going....

The filters are where I started getting confused.... If you don't know what you're doing with the filters on this thing.... my advice would be not to use them in a live situation until you do know how... I got the high and low pass fliters down pretty good, and figured out how to use the LFO w/ it... but these will def. take some getting used to.....

Queing is pretty good on the mixer and there are several ways to que.... The only thing that seems to be missing is a way to hear more than 1 channel and live in your headphones.... Say if you wanted to have the live channel and 2 other cued channels running in your headphones, you couldn't do this... ( I do this @ home w/ my vestax) Maybe there is a way to do it, but I couldn't figure it out last night...

Didn't use any of the midi features yet.... but I'll be bringing Ableton and my Ozone over one of these nights to try it out.

So far I'm very impressed w/ this...we'll have it in a club/lounge environemnt tonight... so I'll get to see what it really can do tonight....

Here's some pics for now..... (they didn't come out that good. I'll take more tonight)

wait, are u saying that u cant hear more than 1 channel in the headphones at the same time?

Posted by pumavisor808 on Jul-28-2004 23:24:

not exactly.... I think you can only hear one "cued" channel in the headphones at a time...

You can hear the live channel and a cued channel @ the same time....but I don't think you can hear 2 cued channels @ a time....

There are a few cueing options, but I didn't really understand the other options...

Theres a knob so you can hear both the mix and a cued track...
there's also split cue...

just mix w/ one ear off and one ear in the headphones and it's just like any other mixer...

Im going to avoid creating a thread for this, and ask the question here. What are those rope-ish like lights that are in that pic? I keep seeing them wrapped around peoples' setups, but ive never seen them anywhere else. What are they called, where can i get them, and whats the pricing on them?

Posted by pumavisor808 on Jul-28-2004 23:30:

those are just rope lights you get @ like Target or Walmart....They cost probably $20.00 or so...

The setup is a mess now... pretty much thrown together since the mixer came in yesterday....

pretty big stepup from a numark matrix mixer
