i was kinda hopin maybe somebody else had gone through something like this before and give alittle insite into the matter.
thanks later

My roommate is a real estate appraiser for the DFW area. I asked him your question.... Depending on your location that will decide whether or not you should get a house. If youre in dallas, then stick with the apartment cause that is a good price. If you're in arlington then you can probably afford about a 150,000 house for the same price each month (but you will also need to put down a dowpayment). Hope this helps.

Just another point... it isn't usually worth it to buy a house unless you are staying some place for at least 5 yrs. Which you may be, but wanted to point that out.

EXACTLY what i was going to say.

Yes, normally that is true, but at the same time if you know what you are doing you can flip properties for a good profit. Granted, you don't want to move all your stuff in and then 9 months later clean it all out, but real estate is explosive right now. If you think buying a house in dallas is a bad investment then you need to think again. There is nothing here that won't turn a profit.

i disagree.
go with the house.

on a $150k house you would be paying about about the same amount (if not less) in mortgage payments (30 year fixed) as you would rent on that apt mentioned. but the difference is that money you pay in mortgage is going into your own equity where as apt is going down the tiolet. within 1 year you've payed off the closing costs of a mortgage and after about 3 years you have an equity (your own cash basicly) of $10k

not only that, in texas you have great tax incentives for buying a home. most of what you pay as property tax can be written off as income tax saving you hundreds.

and now would be better time than next year in buying a house cause interest rates are starting to go up

Leave it to a fellow aggie to agree with me. He knows what he is talking about. By the way, Izzy, what's your major? I graduated Ag Development and was thinking of going thru LERE
