What turntables should I get for $300 price range

I was thinking either the Stanton str8-100 or the Numark TT500, which one is better?

seriously neither... save up and get used mk2s or m3ds

Why are you saying that?
Because technics are industry standard etc? Because he will not be able to beatmatch on turntables different than technics?
Those two models are good and in my opinion enough for bedroom DJ and for small parties. If he ever go to spin in clubs, he will easily adjust to technics TTs, there is no problem in adjusting to better equipment.

In august I will face the same dillema as you, and I decided to buy st-100 or tt500 (as you). What I will do is I will go to guitar center, and I will tell them to hook up both of them(of course one pair of stantons and one pair of numarks to the mixer and I will spend a little while with both of them to decide which one to buy, thats the best way. I used st-100 in a vinyl store, I didnt play with them alot, but they are very solid decks, the pitch slider moves smooth, thats my experience with st-100
someone might say that he likes stantons better, someone else might say numarks are better, you should decide.

well ya, i mean if you just save up a bit more you can find a good deal on some used mk2s or m3ds.

i`m not sayin he wont be able to beatmatch or stanton or numarks are bad but it would be a better investment in goin with techs cause they will last and you won`t have to upgrade...

of course it would be better, i think he can even find technics for that price on ebay(excluding shipping and handling fees), but I prefer new stuff, and im affraid of losing my money, but thats me, he should check ebay

I've been spinning for 8 years now. I started out with some wack ass belt driven decks (in experienced and ta wasn't around then) Point being. I learned the hard way and basically if you CAN save up for techs in all cases no questions asked DO IT. I am not saying you will not be able to beat match on other equipment but it will

#1 save you money in the long run

#2 if you are serious about djing you will not have anything to worry about once you get into a club as far as learning curve on their decks.

there are many techincal reasons why i would say just to save your money and get techs but as i stated i am not sure how serious you are about spinnin.

CRYO: how much did you get your mk5s for? and did you use an ebay order?

no i didnt use ebay.
i just browsed online (you can use froogle now) and found the lowest price.
i got my 1200 mk5 and a shure whitelabel for 500$
something like:
mk5 - 420$
whitelabel - 80$

did the same for each. i got one pair(mk5 and whitelabel) for about the same price and then my second pair in June..

I'd go for the TT500 if I were you. I personally have the TT-200s and they work great for me. If you can find a good deal for Technics on ebay, though, you can't lose taking that option as well.

I use to own a str8-100. It really didn't feel too different from my m3d. However, after a couple of years the pitch fader started to get flakey and eratic thus not holding the pitch. As for the tt500, i honestly haven't used it, but i do know it's based off of the ttx-1 and uses many of the same components like the motor. And i do know people from around here in denver and futureproducers that have made the switch from their trusty 1200s to the ttx-1. So if it's just a analog version of the ttx i would give it a try.

As for the sl1200, it's a no-brainer.

and check this out

tt500 for 220, go to the guitar center and match the price!
