quote:
"If we can stop another family having to go through what we're going through now, by taking this games and games of this nature off the shelves, then we would have achieved something and Stefan wouldn't have died in vain."

I don't really blame the parents, their world must be so fucked up right now and what they need is answers, something to channel their grief into, and a sense that some good came of their sons death.

Who I really blame are the media for encouraging this mass ignorance, and the idiots who decided to accept that the game was to blame and withdraw it from shelves.

Their son was killed by a psycho. Anybody who is capable of doing this kind of thing is obviously not all there in the head. I'd rather see his parents fighting causes trying to help the medical profession spot these disorders early, and help prevent people doing this kind of thing in the first place.

But at the end of the day, there are always going to be murderers out there and a computer game isn't going to change anything. If he wasn't obsessed with this game he probably would have killed their son like Sam L. shoots the kid in Pulp Fiction, or copied some guy in the newspaper. Or if he'd never been exposed to any violent media, probably would have come up with his own way of doing it.

Spot on spad. As if a game can turn a normal person into a murderer lol
People are always looking for easy answers (especially when put into a situation like that guys parents), and its easy to blame the game for this, but its just so fucking stupid. Obviously murderers are gonna play games like this but its just crazy to say that playing these games will MAKE u a murderer. The media have been arseholes about this. The 1 rag i read, but will probably stop reading soon because im getting tired of the bollocks they print, the mirror, listed the top 10 (iirc) most violent games the other day and they had an 'expert' who basically said that gta vice city was a game about killing prostitutes in liberty city Some fucking expert. But they also mentioned that rockstar have doubled the price of manhunt now, and it really pisses me off that rockstar are deliberately profiting from that guys death even tho ive never had a problem with anything they have done before

I happen to study Applied Psychology and one of the things we saw last year was the effect of Agressive Series/Movies/Games on behaviour. It can produce slightly more agressive behaviour, but somekind of mental disorders or drugsintoxication has to be present before any person will start acting it out.
I'm amazed about the fact that so many people fail to realise this ,without even having studied or seen psychology.
We have all been subject to quite large amounts of violence on tv/movies/games for the last 15 years and still there is no orgy of violence going on amongst those millions of videogameplayers.
Still when someone screams that games are to blame, the majority accepts it as a cause and starts a witchhunt.

I have all the respect in the world for those parents their grief, but I have none what so ever for the ignorance clearly shown by media and the general population.

The kid might have been inspired by the game, but I think if it wasn't for manhunt that kid would have found something else.

Manhunt is cool, but not for more than 2 days.

Computer games have definately made me more aggressive, desensitised me to violence and reduced my regard for life.

But I know the consequences of my actions and I would never consider acting out any violent act I committed on a game. I know the difference between reality and games. The people that do stuff like this don't have that concept of right and wrong, anything could trigger their unstable mind to perform such a deed.

If violent games made people killers... I'd have killed before I was ten years old.
