A good place to start would be the "search" button

We need more chick DJ's, hehe. However, before you advance with this, I gotta tell you that this hobby will cost a LOT of money. I mean a whole lot. Equipment first and then adventures in the search for vinyl. Which, in the end, will cost much more than your equipment. But first, ask the same question in the advice for beginners thread. That's how I've started.

Look on ebay for used Techs, if ya on the budget. Get a decent mixer, like Vestax. None of that Behringer crap.

When you get your decks and the first batch of vinyls, practice, practice, practice...

This would be the ideal for a DJ starting out

2x Technics SL-1200 (Its just the standard)
*Any direct drive turntable will suit you just fine though / Any Stanton turntable STR8-30 and up / Any Numark turntable TT1650 and up*

1x Vestax PMC-275 (Solid mixer, preferred by alot of people here, not as expensive as Pioneers and other high end mixers)
*The best lower end mixers are probably Behringers, they range from about $100-$225 / VMX300 & DJX700 are their better models*

2x Stanton AL500II (You dont need anything special here)
*High end carts would be Ortofons and Shures, which can be near and over $100 per cartridge*

1x Sennheiser HD-280 (Not expensive and good)
*Pioneers and Sonys are the higher end stuff, but they arent incredibly durable, some people get them and they break soon after - whether its the ear cup or the head band that cracks - it happens to Sennheisers too, but not as often and for the cost of one Pioneer or Sony you could get 2 Sennheisers*

Being a producer is more expensive and time consuming.

Time consuming - possibly
Expensive - depends.

Holden did Horizons using just his comp and buzzmachines. I guess you could say he had to pay for the computer and the electricity to run it...

There are always fruity loops as well.

i am being taught and teaching my self..and im doing alright production wise too..gettin a little studio set up..yeah just start with a record collention and then buy your self a nice DD turntable

it is hard when you dont know where to start, so see if you can possibly meet up with an djs in your area or check out your local dance music shop and talk to people there

Citric, I would highly reccomend going the software route first just to make 193% sure that dj'ing is something you want to do.

Yeah, you can start with Traktor. I used to DJ in it before I got my setup. *hint*downloadit*hint .
