Question about Speakers and mixing.

hey.

last time i asked about the winamp equalizer, i asked if it could affect your production..i remember the answer was it didn't, but, the best way was to produce on every frequencie band at 0 dB.

i learned that , but now i have a second question.

I have Altec Lansing speakers, normal ones, white, small ones with a Subwoofer.

These speakers have 2 knobs, 1 called bass and 1 Treble, well all know what that is.

I produce stuff on, full Treble and the bass knob at 9 oclock, i also listen to any tune on that setting, and i recon it sounds fine, maybe sometimes the perc is sharp on a few tunes.

I was wondering, must these be also at 0? if i set treble at 0 every tune sounds so dead, and full treble can be sharp sometimes..

so how should i set these 2 knobs in? i do wanne make a track sound decent on most systems.

I was also wondering how this sample sound on your thing, i am working on something new.

i usually never had a problem producing on full treble setting, but i was busy with this sample, and was fixing the mixing, and suddenly i noticed the treble knob was almost at 9 oclock, my dumb little brother musta changed it, so i turn it full, and everything sounds so different(duh), but the questions came, what if on other side the system has alot of bass, the kick would be to hard then, or no treble, then the percussion would not sound clear there etc.

well how you set up your speakers doesn't really matter as long as you keep it at that setting all the time...

just make shure you learn the frequencies where the speakers have dips and hills so to speak

sound is relative, always remember that

run the a/b comparison between the track you made and the track you heard somewhere else, for example in the club, and you know for sure that is sounds the way you want your track to sound. play both tracks in winamp (but turn the eqs off since that ones suck) and listen closely for a longer period of time. it does not matter that much how those speakers of yours are set up (even if it would be better if you set them completely flat) as long as you know how properly produced tracks sound when played on them. and when you finish the track go to your friend and check how it sounds on his system, no matter what he has. listen to your track on as many systems as you can, along with the tracks you are familiar with.
