The year of...?
Up to this point, what genre of music would you consider to be the genre of 2001? I've heard a lot of people say chillout... I kind of find that hard to swallow, but you never know...
What do you think will be the dominant genre of 2001?
progressive or chillout

probably progressive. Even though I'm not a big fan of it, it has been being played ALOT.
I would say 2001 = calm before the storm because in 2002 we're gonna get the new Gouryella release, plus their new CD and Uplifting will make a come back all together..... I can be patient and let this progressive period slide..... it'll make us appreciate uplifting that much more!!!
gouryella. it's either going to be the match that fires up uplifting trance again, or the last bullet in the ammunition of trance. such a tense moment...........
POP probably
Progressive!
This year the progressive scene got way larger!
well the year aint out yet, but it seems to be progressive, although chill out stuff is flooding the market

Ive heard a lot more prog and electronic songs with tacky pop sounding lyrics. The music seems yo have lost some energy this year, lets hope it charges up like djSlain is predicting.

This has definitely been the year of prog house not trance. Sasha is more prog trance while digweed is more house (best way I can put it). I think this is digweed's big year, he'll win dj of the year and will quickly fade away because he is not open minded and doesn't change with the times. His style of prog house is simplistic and boring and I think it will be a quick fad. Radio 1 already has a pole asking if people have had enough prog house. Maybe next year will be techno's year to shine. I am beginning to like it more and more because it keeps the energy of trance and does away with its cheasy garbage and the boredome prog house (well some techno anyway, some of it is just as bad). The one thing I have noticed about electronic music is how quickly it evolves. It's always changing and that's one characteristic that separates it from most music genres. Just look at rock music... has it evolved one bit since hendrix and elvis? Not really, it keeps producing the same crap year after year... no innovation and no creativity.
Anyway I love this genre and I cant wait to see how it progresses.
see but there is that borderline stuff that I CALL prog trance. like solicitous - furthermost.. e.g. cass & slide - perception (not glad i ate her)
even like sasha - xpander
and such.
some of tiesto's magik journey stuff. not anthems. but still trance.
the most excellent way out west too, walking that line between progressive house and trance.
this is the kind of music we need more of, more seaman/warren stuff, less digs, and of course some decent epic trance in the upcoming year.
I agree cass and slide - perception is a great song
The year where shops were filled with shit loads of commercial chill out albums, most of which were shit...
The year of the progressive sound, progressive house 2 b xact; progressive house has had most of the focus, not progressive trance.
All in all a bad year :-(
In revenue terms it would be those damn Chillout albums - I swear they're breeding. For me it's been prog though, coz I never listened to it before and I luv it
I hope the money-makers don't catch on though coz I want to explore it at my own pace without having it rammed down my throat.
What I'd like to see is more sets like Tiesto's EM. A great blend of quality prog & uplifting tunes. Doesn't need to be a fight, they work well together.
I think 2002 will be make or break year for epic/uplifting, but I'm confident it's going to be a cracker. It seems like every year people expect trance to die out and be replaced (hard house last year, prog this year) but it'll just keep going if you ask me.
