The 20/80 Rule.

Vilfredo Pareto (1848-1923) was an Italian economist who, in 1906, observed that twenty percent of the Italian people owned eighty percent of their country's accumulated wealth. Over time and through application in a variety of environments, this analytic has come to be called Pareto's Principle, the 80-20 Rule, and the "Vital Few and Trivial Many Rule."

I c & p'd the above story, and the relevance to TA is that there are constant stories about guys that are in the 80% club, and expressing disappointment, frustration and anger. Essentially, a business gets 80% of its business from 20% of its customers, you wear 20% of your clothes 80% of the time and 20% of the guys get 80% of the girls.

There are shitload of posters here not in the 20% club, and it shows by the sooking, heartbroken, she doesn't like me back, blah blah threads and posts. But lets just say that getting into the 20% club is hard work for most. Some are born into the 20% club through being tall, dark and handsome, but most need to work their asses of to get membership and retain it.

For members of the 80% club, because of the limited opportunities to get female attention events such as being rejected, cheated on, dumped, ignored, treated badly or rudely, or being insulted, is almost life ending. These events cause the 80% members to cry, get depressed, whinge, bitch, and write feel sorry for me threads on TA. The funny thing is that the same thing happens to members of the 20% club, its just that if a woman does those things to them they figure that they don't deserve me any way, and begin looking for someone who does, and there are plenty of girls out there.

Stayed tuned for details on how to get membership of the club.

I was let out of my small, dark and cramped cage not that long ago.

And as you can notice I have exchanged my previously negative responses for love and helpfulness, hence this thread which looks to improve the lives of TAs distraught by events seemingly out of their control.

Did you miss me?

Simply being a metrosexual does not ensure membership of the 20% club, more is required.

And Rodrico, care to elaborate?

Because I rarely get all the girls (20 percent exclusive club), but I rarely whine or cry when I dont get a girl, I move on with dignity and try to fix myself up with another good girl. I think theres just some people who tend to fixate their lives upon how much they can score as a sign of being a successful man (nothing wrong with it ofcourse). As opposed to those who find healthy, long lasting relationships to be a sign of a successful man. Some of the male society has a strange obsession with fucking everything in sight, to me its always been a thought of quality over quantity, but at the same time, Never pass up a good chance for some good sex.

I just felt that you had a very weak arguement about the whole thing.

There are people that tend to fall in love with every girl they fuck, but these people are generally a lost cause, with fate and luck usuually denying them a chance to make the hard decisions to do their best.

I won't assume you made an assumption, but getting lots of girls does not always involve sex, and nor should it. There are places for all types of girls in your life, those good to have as friends, those good to fuck and those you love, don't assume membership of the 20% club involved fucking 5 girls per week, although it probably does usuaully involve meeting 5 girls per week if single.

The 20% club do get into relationships, not always good ones, but don't remain single for 2 years afterwards, if it goes bad.

Posted by -=M=- on Aug-05-2004 04:23:

wow suprisingly insightful... like 20% of the world make up 80% of the world's intelligence, eh?

Posted by Rodrico on Aug-05-2004 04:38:

I thought that this is what you meant: 20 percent of the male population gets all the girls while 80 percent get squat. If friendship counts as well as constant interaction with girls, I doubt only 20 percent of the male population gets that.

You know, I was reading this old article where it was saying how there are like 30 or 40 million more woman in thie world than men (maybe 20, I have to look it up again). In most species, the dominate sex usually is the one who initiates a relationship with the other sex. We are part of a very few species that do the reverse, in where the less dominate species is required to make the initiation for the relationship.

Also, that we are also part of a few species that believe in monogamy. Once again proving that marraige and monogamy was a way for the church to deal with women's insecurities, as well as to destroy oral sex as we know it. (Bill Maher, its paraphrased tho)

Where was my point again? oh yeah, wouldnt it be nice if guys didnt always have to always initiate conversation and pick up women everytime. I swear, sometimes I feel as though I cant come up with enough creative and interesting shit, anyone ever just lie blatantly just to make conversation and try to score with a girl?

Posted by Orbax on Aug-05-2004 04:44:

if the 20/80 worked in that fashion I doubt wed have 7 billion people and a world growth rate of doubling every 20 odd years.

You bring up a rather interesting observation that men are usually the ones to make more of an effort in the dating process, initiate sexual and general phsyical contact more often and generally take more risks in attracting a member of the opposite sex.

There are many theories for this but I think it comes down to women holding more power in the dating scene than men, for a variety of reasons. It takes a particularly confident man to display the confidence an average woman has in interactions with the opposite sex. One main problem is that most men try very hard to attract female attention and go rediculous lengths often to get girls to like them. And each time they suffer rejection it often motivates them to try to harder, whereas the opposite approach would be far more effective.

I think that for many years, and probably centuries, preceding the current few decades men have held much of the power in relationships and dating, and still do in some countries and cultures, but the power has well and truly shifted in our day and age.

For the solution you have to look at John Nash's competition theory. Quite simply, if all the men in the world joined together and agreed that they would play hard to get and give females no attention in order to win them over, men would once again become the dominate player. But the theory shows that people will further their own personal interests for gain, so men joining together will never work.

I personally am a believer in the "less is more" approach. ie the less you give, the more you get.
