what am i gonna do?!?!

OK heres my problem...I made an awesome mix cd with TRAKTOR(mp3 mixing program) and it was flawless in the mixing...so i take it to the local record shop cuz they sell local DJs CDs...to make a long story short..it got in to the hands of the promoter at a really big club in chicago called Club Industry (www.club-industry.com) and they want me to DJ starting next weekend! i have no vinly just mp3s! they have a DJM 600 mixer and i have only very basic knowledge in using...what should i do about next weekend???

thats quite a messy problem do u have a friend who has vinyls/tables? if so go to them and take some quick lessons from him/her and practice as much as you can. if you get good enough, go for it. if not then i think you should tell them the truth about the mp3 mixing thing.

heheheh thats why i didnt send my CD yet , i need my TTs or else!

start practicing 24/7 on some t/t and get your beatmatching down at least. put a htread in the dj zone called something like "crash course" and get everyones ideas on how to learn quick. do the show, if they say you suck tell them someone put g in your drink.

Tell them you have something else next week, but that you can do it in 2-3 weeks... that should give you some time.

dude, you got yourself in trouble there!
that's why I'm hesitant about doing anything serious with CD's that I mixed on a computer with MP3's.
Do you have any friends that have turntables and can lend you some vinyl? Don't worry, it's not that hard. I suggest you get some really BIG tunes so the emphasis will be on the music and not on the mixing

Laffin i almost got myself into the same mess but i declined as sson as they offered the spot to me and said that i had already got a job in another club! If i were you then i wouldnt do the set cuz there's no way u'll be able to beat match properly all nite. But what u could do is take a laptop with Traktor on it and connect that to the mixer and mix live on that.

Just tell them ur a mp3 dj, nothing wrong with that, dj doboy is 1 of 'em and he is widely appreciated for his megamixes

thanks alot guy for all ur suggestions...hopefully they have cd players, ill make a CD at home and if i get into trouble ill use it as a back up plan so i dont fucking embarass the hell outta my self...but im gonna pick up about 10 new vinyls and go...viynl - cd - vinyl - cd, ETC that will be about 20 tracks and more then enuf time to fill my spot...i mean i kno the basics of beatmatching...so if i fuck up ill just thro my pre recorded cd in for a few songs untill i get my self back together...then id say afetr a few weeks ill be straight vinyl...ill let u guys know what happenes! but i need more suggestions

call in sick?
tell the truth?
does Tran Huyn really like me?

Posted by Trancewave on Sep-22-2001 18:59:

LOL, isn't Traktor great??? I just love it! Anyways, I wouldn't suggest you go try playing live, there's just no way you could beatmatch and play your way through the whole night. I was playing around with my buddy's vinyls and mixing on his turntables the other night for the first time and yeah, it wasn't too hard and I have some basic knowledge of mixing BUT there's ABSOLUTELY no way I would ever perform live without lots of time to practice. Unless you wanna get booed off the stage, I've seen it happened a few times and it's not fun at all...LOL!!!

whoops, i didn't read your response. Looks like you're actually going to go through with it, that's awesome. Good luck, and please fill us in on what happens, I'm dying to find out.

Same tought here. Just tell them you mix with mp3. Take a Laptop and off you go...

They didn`t choose you because the mixing on the CD was so brilliant that noone else could do it (no offense) but they choose you because they like your taste of music. A lot of people can mix but not many people will do exactely the music they want for their club. That`s why they choose you. Not for the mixing but for the music.

So they just think that your stile of music would be good for their club so why not go for it. Tell them you`ll do it with mp3 and it`ll probably be o.k.

GOOD LUCK!

HA! shit, U got yourself a problem..first off, u ever done a show @ all? Cuz I know the first show I did, I was nervous as all hell, and I was just straight CD mixin with no beatmatching

so yeah..I dunno bout bringing the laptop and mixing off that unless the DJ booth is really hidden so nobody would see you. Cuz personally If I saw a DJ with a computer, Id laugh my ass off.

And depending on the club, they might like you to use CDs..there are few clubs here that use vinyl(jsut the good ones)

so I dunno..go for it or not, Id say not. Let him know its an MP3 mix..then work on getting your tables and vinyl

but isn't it illegal to be mixing with mp3's? especially if he doesn't own the original cd/vinyl? it is a public broadcast i think and phanta c may get in trouble if he does.

Yup, if he gets found out he'll get busted for it.
