can't connect keyboard to pc

Hi there,

for some reason I can't connect my keyboard (Roland EM 15) to my PC. I've put the MIDI cable right, I think. But Cubase won't record anything.

If someone has any idea what might work, tell me.

Thankzz

If I'm interpreting your question correctly, you can't record the audio signal from your keyboard via midi. Midi is merely data. For instance, you can control the samples and softsynths in Cubase by sending midi data from your keyboard to your computer, or you can control your keyboard by sending midi data to it from Cubase.

If you want to actually record the audio from your synth, you need some kind of audio interface, or you can connect the output of your synth to the "mic in" on your audio card.

Hope this helps

Is the problem that you don't know how to connect your midi controller, that you don't know how to set it up so that Cubase will recognise it, or that you don't know how to use Cubase.

I just fix the problem. But the sound isn't always on time when I play the keyboard. I've read that it has something to do with latency.
I work with the creative SB Live, is that not good enough for cubase ?

In order to reduce the latency, you need to get an ASIO driver that is compatible with your sound card. There are some 3rd party ASIO drivers available for the older SB cards, although I don't know where to find them. Maybe someone else will answer here for you. Otherwise, run a search in this forum for Sound Blaster ASIO. That should help you out.

Then go into Devices --> Device Setup --> VST multitrack and select the ASIO driver. If worst comes to worst and you can not find a compatible ASIO driver, you may have to use ASIO multimedia driver (I'm pretty sure this is better than the ASIO DX driver). That should sort out the delays you are experiencing.

Hope that helps.
