what do you think about EDM and drugs?

i was at an outdoor EDM festival last weekend, and saw a lot of people on drugs, was offered to buy coke, X, weed, asked if i had coke, X, acid. i saw a person get taken out on a stretcher to an ambulance, and heard about 3 other people taken away. Heard there was bad acid going around. Saw this girl puking all over, FREAKING out, and crying....and it wasn't from too much alchohol.

i knew that this event would attract a lot of hardcore ravers and i knew drug use was to be expected...

and i don't have anything against druggies unless they are a burden to society...I, myself smoked pot frequently from age 16-20...i am curious about trying X, but probably won't do it...i don't think a little weed really hurts anyone...

but i was wondering what percentage of EDM fans are drug users, and more specifically, what percentage of TAs are...also peoples views on drugs/users, and the relation to EDM...

btw the event was called blueshift, and i had a great time....skylab2000 was insane...tore the place up!

i don't do drugs...

i would guess 70% of EDM fans do some kind of drug

i would guess about the same on TA

i think drugs are a apart of the scene and its not something that could ever be changed. sometimes people get a little nuts, but as long as people are doing it in a controlled manner and not bothering anyone...i don't care if people are doing it...

i think it's the people that want to raves just to do drugs. but the true fans 50/50

Depends on what you mean as a drug user, as well. Frequency, intensity...does doing it once count as a user.

lots of people you probably wont even know they are messed up, its just the abusers who get rolled.

i think the 80/20 rule apply here.

I am at afterhours club (edm music clubs) and the vast majority are on something.

okayokay...well what percentage of DJs do any drugs except weed?

id say 25-35

i stick to herb and shrooms( like once a year, very sparingly)

except week id say 15-20

I do drugs

but not to an extent of being called a druggie.

i used to be a MEGA pot head....but that sort of died down after being high 24/7 for practically a year and a half lol

right now im just chillin- anywayz.....ganja isn't a drug

I personally dont do drugs, but if other people want to use them Im not gonna judge them or say they are beneath me. My only opinion is, if your gonna use drugs, be responsible and dont ruin the night for yourself and people around you.

I was heavily into the drug scene for a while. I'm not anymore, but I have never needed to be on drugs to actually enjoy my music. Yes, it's very awesome to listen to EDM when you are tripping out, and EDM is very connected to drug use as it is very trip enhancing unlike most other music.

However, that is the drug users choice, and I wouldn't say EDM is bad because it encourages drug use. It doesn't at all.

I think drugs addicts are in trouble and need to change their lives, but people who do drugs once in a while for whatever reason, I don't care so long as they aren't hurting anything/one, or themselves.

I would say that the precentage of YOUTH all together that uses drugs is very high, not just people who listen to EDM.

I think it's kind of ridiculous that people associate music genres to lifestyles (except maybe in the case of punk, which is BS anyways). I know just as many people who are into EDM who don't do drugs as I know people who are. I for one, do not do drugs, and find drugs kind of useless and I DO judge people for using them mainly because most druggies I know are total dickheads, that and drugs have changed a lot of my friends for the worst, so I'm kind of biased against them. If, however, someone can show me they're still a decent person, it wouldn't bother me as much, as long as I'm not around while it's being done. I get physically sick to my stomach when people talk about doing drugs or are doing drugs.

I dunno, I have done a bunch of drugs on certain nights, but I'm a person who never goes too far or crazy, I just do the right amount for my body weight and usual tolerance level. But I dont think I apply too much to this demographic considering I would rather listen to Rolling Stones while trippin on X, rather than any EDM.

Yeah, thats what happens when 15 and 14 year olds think their cool and abuse things that are far beyond their own level of responsibility and maturity. Sorry, but judge all you want, you still dont know shit.

I wouldn't say "I don't know shit", but I know how it affects and has affected me. So, I'd think that counts for something.

Well, what can I say, most drug users I know are quite responsible and very good people. I figure this out, retards who cant handle drug use, end up in the newspaper or as some statistic for a crime. Either way, they are happily removing themselves from the gene pool, and all we really lost is just another gas station attendant at best...

I understand some people can use drugs and be upstanding members of society, which is why I'm not completely close-minded on the subject. I'm just slightly biased.

I know when I'm drunk or high or numb (the latter two are far in my past).. whatever... I like to listen to music. But, I don't limit it to just EDM. A band called Pinback is fucking awesome while altered, specifically their song "Penelope". So, I wouldn't associate drugs with just EDM. I mean, go to a Snoop Dogg concert or even a Tom Petty show and I guarantee the ganj use will be through the roof. Drugs are part of the music community and vice versa. Always have been, always will be.

I've never done drugs and don't plan on ever doing drugs. I can enjoy the music tremendously and have one hell of a time even just sitting in my room listening to music, and I don't feel I need to get high to enhance that feeling.

I also don't see what the point is to getting stoned/smashed/hammered/wasted, but that's just me.

No one here does drugs. At all. Ever.

I went out last week and saw 2 guys on alcohol beat the shit out of each other, did you see that at this party?

You appear to be experiencing your first taste of real life and shock horror, people take drugs.

I'll be honest. I do drugs. Well, not as much as I used to. Moderation is the key. I've had no problems. Just don't let everyone tell you that "druggies" are on the way to jail or nowhere fast or whatever. Most of us are normal people who just like to use them. Don't believe the stereotype. I love pot (had to throw that in)

and I noticed someone else mention this- they say they only use pot and shrooms on occasion. I've heard many a friend tell me this, "pot and mushrooms only cuz it's natural!!" that is one skewed-ass logic. Psilocybin is a POISON used as a defense mechanism of the mushroom to keep predators from eating it. THC is another example, along with Peyote and all those other "OK" natural drugs. Drugs are drugs people. They're not good. Some are just more addictive than others. (i'm not saying that's the reason you only do shrooms and pot, I'm just using you as an example)


...some people can't handle drugs. those that can't, shouldn't.


...and to keep this on the subject, I got into EDM because of MDMA. I then listened to it so much that even when the MDMA was gone, I could still feel the music like I was there again... an indescribable feeling. I attribute the main reason I listen to EDM to MDMA. It got me into the scene in the first place.
