Check out this film 'set'!

If you haven't passed by Queen St. and Broadview St. to see the way they've converted this neighborhood to make it look like 1930's Depression-era shops for the movie "Cinderella Man", here are some pics to show what a great job they've done. They should be done filming there in the next day or 2.

("Cinderella Man" stars Russell Crowe & Rene Zelwiger, directed by Ron Howard- set in the '30's about a boxer)

dont forget..our very own richard raiban is doin a cameo in it too

Posted by walkindude on Aug-10-2004 03:06:

russel crowe should be there ... apparently he has been here for quiet a while now, training for the film.

they did a really good job

They shot some scenes inside Maple Leaf Gardens too...for a while, every day on my walk to work I'd pass a bunch of extras hanging out outside MLG, stylin' in their '30s suits

Posted by tatgirl on Aug-10-2004 12:11:

The inside of MLG was even cooler- set to look like Madison Square Gardens in the 30's. Stadium seats were filled with these inflatable manniquins wearing suit jackets & hats- it was soooo crazy!

Dunno if it's still up, but there was a Madison Square Gardens marquee sign on the south side of the Bay store (Richmond St, just west of Yonge)- it was really incredible! I hope its still up cuz I haven't gotten any pics on my camera yet (just others).

Is Rene still around? I haven't seen her in a while *sigh*

I thought they were done filming this long time ago already but I'm kinda happy they are still here.

A friend of my mom's spotted Owen Wilson downtown the other day, I would have loved to chat with that guy

Yeh, I work at Richmond and Bay (well, one short block west). I've been watching the various stages of production, funny to see a bunch of horses downtown last friday . I'll prob check today to see if that sign on the Bay is still up.

LOL.. i saw this too.. i was like WTF??? are we in New York?

Ive also noticed all those extras taking their break in their 1930's type uniforms

ITs pretty scary how much effort it takes to make a film of this proportion.

my best friend is playing a role in this film as well!!!

no kidding...imagine what it costs just to pay the entire film crew each day...and filming can go on for months and months! Add to that the set costs, location costs, all the behind the scenes editing, special effects, etc.

sometimes the producers forking over the money must just pray that they made a good investment, lol...

I know the company I work for is making good cash from this film.

Nice.........being in Kingston I have only had the opportunity to meet Dan Ackroyd (SP?)......he lives just outside of town. It would be nice to meet a celeb that isn't washed up :P

That guys' funny...i heard he hunts down the young girls of queens

Anywho...Toronto is a great place to meet famous people, they seem to be more relaxed here and they are doing a lot of work (movies and such) here as well. Best time of course is the film festival

You're forgetting to mention that Rene Zelwiger was working out at your gym....
I met Ron Howard, only because I was taking the crew's photos for their ID badges. Hoping I get invited to the wrap party...

Posted by Ziggy on Aug-12-2004 18:17:

There is no need to "transform" toronto into a look from the
great depersion of the 30's, it already looks like that.
