Idea tokyo anyone

One of the rewards of being exposed to websites such as Tranceaddict and Tribe magazine is the networking aspect of partaying. I have met some very kewl, intellingent and open-minded people in a very short time. In that spirit- i now need your help.

i am currently researching living in Tokyo for one year and am trying to get my hands on websites of substance that will help me gather the information i need. I know, there are a million such sites out there, but when you have a computer like mine that suks! majorly! i prefer getting right to where i need to go.

So if any of you have absolutely anything to offer ie- residences, electronica sites, etc etc etc- please feel free to respond or you can also drop me a PM.

Always a pleasure - everyone!
VC.

tip#1739: its an insult to drown ur sushi in dipping sauce, you're basically telling the chef his food is so bad that you have mask its aweful taste in sauce.

Posted by voodoochild on Aug-12-2004 13:46:

cant wait to eat all the sushi i can- wow! the ONLY way i eat it is by dunking it in tons of sauce. YIKES!! ill be careful not to get caught- i promise.
Now what about the partay scene in Tokyo...

keep the info coming.

Ive heard...*HEARD* that Tokyo is a really hard place to party... things get busted up a lot and lots of things are illegal. Correct me if Im wrong.

I will be leaving tomorrow for a week in Tokyo, before i end up in Osaka. So you should try www.japan-guide.com for general info on Japan, i found it fairly good. I am not too sure about electronic music though... i mean there is a couple clubs that play it. But i do not think there is any engliish sites for it.

honestly, most of my sources for clubbing info = word of the mouth

though i doubt ull be interested but uh, job finder for gaiji (foreigners):

* http://www.narita-airport.or.jp/airport_e/ <-- the official english site for narita airport. may come in handy when ur arriving or departing; who knows!?

* http://metropolis.japantoday.com/default.asp <--japan's english magazine for english speakers. very very nice. its online but you can find the free paper edition @ various stores/restaurants throughout tokyo. very informative & convenient.

* as aforementioned : http://www.japan-guide.com

* http://www.jyh.or.jp/english/ <-- japan youth hostels official site

* http://www.hostels.com/jp.html <-- another hostel site if u wanna travel / house cheap in japan i guess. never done that myself though!

* http://www.japantimes.co.jp/start.htm <-- japans most prominent english newspaper (yeah yeah, im prolly exaggerating but whatever )

hopefully those are good enough for the time being. if you need any more i guess u can pm or osmething. lol... well, last and most importantly, have fun & enjoy your stay. tokyo maybe a crazy place and you may be overwhelmed at first, its a great city that has got alot to offer (esp if you got the cash to blow )!

well- some good responses. yours specifically- lots of insights.
some good news and some not so good news- really want to go, so I should suck it up and do the work to get there huh but the uncertainty.... discouraging all the same.

Good News:
-to meet like minded TAs and others.
-encouragement from literally Everyone i have talked to
- Information on Nova, Geos,Aeon, ECC- foreign teacher employment agencies.
-knowing that the party scene is alive an well in Tokyo.

Bad News

-warnings from some Japanese websites( expats who live there)that it can be quite difficult if one ends up there at the wrong timev ie jobs not available.
-advise to bring about 5000US with me if i do not have a job lined up
-**** need for a completed undergrad, I have 9 months to go to wrap this Undergrad up. apparently i can find a job there without one but its advisable to get one tho., I want to leave SOON- and doing courses part-time as i have to work fulltime makes it merely impossible to finish up sooner. Currently signed up for ESL certification in September ( good sign as it shows interest )
Ideally leave in Jan 2005 and COmplete undergrad parttime-correspondence courses as i have only 3 electives to finish up.
-WTF , suddenly my 15 year of business experience and training people at work is of no use to anyone in Tokyo.

So thats where it stands now. Inquiries have been sent to many agencies, universities, individuals etc. waiting for all the information to come back to me so more decisions can be made.

Neeta.
