Running Errands (literally)

So, in my continual quest to not be a bitch ive recently decided that because everything in town is within a 10 mile radius, that I am only going to run or walk to shop now. I can only fit stuff in my backpack anyway because I ride a motorcycle, but I thought this would be cool.

I ran about 10 miles yesterday going to the store for a pair of boxers. It was awesome. I had so much fun. I cant wait for rainy ass days where you just get totally soaked and come home dripping and grinning and get to shower and hop in a robe and hang out.

Its good times, and itll get you into shape. Maybe make you stop buying all the crap you dont need

just my thought of the week

I think I'll still use my car, even though the shop is only 900meters from my home.

The reason is I really don't like running on tarmac, better off in the forest.

yeah, I also hike and Xcountry a lot too...but why limit yourself.

Posted by GHOSH on Aug-12-2004 21:56:

That is fookin cool.

Reminded me of when I was in colorado about a year ago, and we had this mother of a snow storm, we could not even find our cars. And work was shut down. So we walked all over the freakin place to get food, movies, firewood, got back home, made cocao, and chilled in robes.

But yeah, walkin about for short distances instead of driving is a great idea.

how can you possibly have time for that? i have like 1-2 hours per day that i can use for my errands, housekeeping and excercise. running ten miles would take the whole afternoon...

too bad it doesn't happen very often

took about an hour and 20 minutes. plus a day of 7 am to 1 am gives you a lot of time to do whatever you need to

i didn't mean that you'd be sore i meant that doing cardio for extended amounts of time can be bad for muscles. i mean, its all about food intake. i mean over long extended runs like that your body can start to use muscle as a source of energy rather than stored fat. i personally don't go longer than a hour ever. but i dunno...what have you found when doing those long runs like that?

Posted by GHOSH on Aug-12-2004 22:35:

From my understading (and how I've been doin it) Is cardio for about 20-25 minutes after heavy lifting. A protien shake during the workout. gives plenty of fuel with out canniblizing muscle.

Posted by LinX on Aug-12-2004 22:41:

sounds good to me man,,, i would run to the liquor store drink my ass off on the sidewalk then run home as fast as i could

nah i wouldnt do that

yeah but we're not talking about 20 minutes...we're talking about an hour and a half. after twenty minutes you've barely even started to burn fat...

I used to do 12-16 2-3 times a week. It would destroy, then get stronger. as I was running farther and farther diet became more important, and the time it took to build up to that distance at that frequency was several months.

But it felt good in the end. It took all the fat off my body, then I switched diets and started weights heavily.

Also 10 miles in the city with lights and crosswalks and traffic isnt as hard as it may sound, lol. Lots of stops and resting.

I did that when I was in scotland and the liquor store was 30 yards away from the front door.

after the second fifth I purchased wearing nothing but a kilt the owner was suspecting drunkness lol. The girl liked it because I didnt care when they flipped my kilt up

It deoends on what you are trying to build.

Me personally, have given up the notion long ago of being a lithe, wiry individual (unsure why i wanted to, in the first place) So primary consideration is strength and size, with a decent amount of cadiovascular health (Boxing and all accoiated exercises 3 times a week.

A person trying to go for a more toned, slimmer package, would concentrate more on the cadiovascular aspect, and exercises with more intensity, as opposed to resistance.

This might be a subject for a whole nother thread... I need to whip out those exercise manuals...
