Newbie Hardware Vs. Software

I have been reading alot on here and there seems to be a point that i cant make a decesion on. Should i start with software or hardware. I was thinking of starting with a sampler just to get that going.

I have played with Cool Edit, Fruity Loops, and Logic. Couldnt really do anything with logic cause i didint have a MIDI controler. I am thinking of starting maybe with Reason and try to master that for a little bit and then maybe start to hit some hardware.

What do some of you veterns think i should do? I want to learn from your mistakes.

Doh, here we go again.

In a nutshell, hardware has the ability to create better sounds because it has several DSP chips dedicated just to creating and moulding the sound, whereas software is dependant on the efficiency algorithms of the coders and your own computer's speed.

That said, most people will generally agree that a talented enough individual can use top-of-the-line software and create sounds that are just as good.

Or maybe it's just the "wannabe-know-it-all's" that don't know how to use it, and think that hardware is the be it and end all solution to their problems. THAT'S what has made trance boring these days, not to mention these forums.

it's the recordlabels that's responsible for the what you call "boring trance" subtle, nothing else.

there are loads of skilled producers out there with their own inovative sounds but the labels are so afraid that it will fail just because it's inovative and different so instead they go for the regular trancetracks...

ohh and btw. you can't really blame it on the software since it's not the software itself that's creating the music, it's the producers using it

Exactly what Vizay said, and that this thread has been done a million times, just search the thread. But Tranc3 has pretty much summed it up for you.

PS : Hardware is more fun to play with, obviously.

maybe someone wants to actually answer his question?

Generally, software is easier to use and I would recommend using that along with FL Studio for a beginner.

Problem with using reason is that it's pretty much it's own thing.. FL Studio, Logic, Cubase, etc etc are all one method of producing.. and Reason is the other..

reason is different in that it is completly software and doesn't have a lot of hard-ware support. it also doesn't support VSTi instruments which are your soft synths like V-Station, Z3ta, Vanguard, etc etc..
