Palestine a nation to the world except for Israel?

I was watching the olympic ceremonies and Palestine was there as a NATION walking! They even got a nice roaring applause along with Iraq and afghanistan!

I was really happy to see them walking and participating despite the factt that zionists have tried to not give them their country!

Iran doesn't recognize Israel as a country but they were both there. Just because a single country doesn't recognize a country to exist it doesn't mean they can't participate. They were even talking about an iranian who drew an israeli in his first round and he may quit the games because they don't recognize israelis to exist. Now that is screwed up to me.

You are in denial.. it was even mentioned by the commentators on CBC

and that iranian that backed away from the games...he has been a gold medalist.. so he would crush that isaeli anyway

despite some sympathy i have for the palestinians, that is quite lame. people for some reason take the olympics for political demonstrations and generalize individual athletes for their national politics... i just don't agree with that.

thats is quite screwed up. its really sad imo when different people wont accept on basis of religion or history. i mean, i understand the palestinian and israeli conflicts have been going on for such a long time, but once every four years people from opposing countries, etc can settle their differences in a peaceful manner. plus i would think that if he doesnt recognize israel as a nation he would want to prove his self-named superiority by competing and beating another person at something he loves to do. but what do i know.

lastly, i dont understand why the US got as much cheers as they did. i mean, im from the US but i dont like it very much. im planning on moving to europe in a few years. but the fact that most of the world despizes the US, or atleast the US foreign policy and whatnot, i dont understand why we received so many cheers. i personally dont think we deserved it. but oh well. i was just glad some other countries that you wouldnt expect to get cheers actually did, and big ones at that.

i dont remember whos team, it was either afghanistan or iraq i think, that was flown out secretly by military transport because otherwise they werent allowed to go or something along those lines. i missed something though.

It may have been that it actually was a lot of americans there. but really, it's not like everyone hates you just because of your awful foreign policies, your terrible environmental policies and everything else that effect us in a negative way

exactly right - you dont understand. looks like liberal media got the best of you. let me explain. the people were not there to cheer for politics and foreign policy - they were there to unite as a world's people and cheer on the athletes, every one of whom very much deserves to be there.

on no.. i think the atheletes deserve the applause and cheers, but where were these applause and cheers for the other countries. you would just have to hear the commentators on NBC last night when the US came out. They were all exclaiming "and listen to those cheers, as the US team walks out. blah blah blah the US ownz you all"

i dont think we deserve that kind of recognition. i know the olymics are about the athletes and they deserve applause more than can be provided for their efforts but the way that the US media portrayed america in comparison with other countries was sickening. i just suppose my wording was wrong. i didnt mean the way it sounded.

I dont think the US media portrayed them any different, they were quite balanced if you ask me. In fact I think that both announcers were expecting the US to get booed for our foreign policy and were quite surprised we got cheers. This isn't a place to showcase your political beliefs its only about athletes. So why shouldn't we have gotten cheered? Are our athletes bad? Also if the announcers did show any favoritism to the US athletes ( i noticed they had a bit more camera time) its because after all we ARE in the US. I'm sure foreign countries got more air time with their media as well. You can't blame a person from the US for being excited about their country. Perhaps too it could have been some of the American athlete who have more notoreity in the world than other players, you can't deny that the US has the best trained athletes in the world. It's not bragging, its just a fact.

and to clear things up.. i didnt make a thread on the number of cheers a nation recieved.. it made it becuase i was surprised to see Palestine there as a NATION..and not just a people.
