Who cares about b-ball? It's all about football (THE REAL FOOTBALL)!

Posted by beema on Aug-16-2004 04:20:

Quite obviously, they don't take it as seriously as teams from other countries. They were overconfident and slacking, typical American atttitude.

Posted by mets4012 on Aug-16-2004 04:32:

i was watchin the game they could not hit any outside shots at all and when they gave the ball to duncan they were double and triple teaming him. didnt look like they were playing hard until the second half.

Posted by Greedy on Aug-16-2004 04:34:

nah man, Puerto Rico was hella good. Dont take it away from them by sayin the US was slackin off or watever. Puerto Rico brought the HEAT!

Yeah, us Americans are so slacking especially considering we have the longest average work week at 45+ hours and vacations that last 2 weeks instead of 6.

Hard not to be (over)confident being raised in a country that invented cars, electricity, phones, air flight, etc. while at the same time being idolized for the movies we make, or being the only ones to walk on the moon, or or or or... the list goes on.....

A group of 2nd tier all-stars thrown together for 2 weeks who don't play D and can't shoot is not a good representative of our prowess in basketball. At the same time, we need to give respect to the other countries who obviously have shrunken the gap to well... nothing.

Anyway, the point is that we suck now and our "scrubs" are gonna get blasted by other TEAMS.

The U.S. is so pathetic we don't care about football errr soccer and we finish 8th in the world cup and kicked the snot out of Mexico even though practically their life depends on it.

Posted by Greedy on Aug-16-2004 13:53:

good point, but. . . . .those inventions were made ultimately cuz we're too lazy. Why walk when we can invent cars etc

Posted by Member of X on Aug-16-2004 13:58:

I would say we are more a country of excess. That's why we are so fat.

Give me that gas too.....

wrong. cars were invented by germans, the assembly line invented by an american. electricity is a natural phenomenon (hello lightning?!?!) and can't be invented.

carry on

As mentioned below, there isn't one inventor of the car. I would say still say America made it commonplace.

The automobile as we know it was not invented in a single day by a single inventor. The history of the automobile reflects an evolution that took place worldwide. It is estimated that over 100,000 patents created the modern automobile. However, we can point to the many firsts that occurred along the way. Starting with the first theoretical plans for a motor vehicle that had been drawn up by both Leonardo da Vinci and Isaac Newton.

In 1769, the very first self-propelled road vehicle was a military tractor invented by French engineer and mechanic, Nicolas Joseph Cugnot (1725 - 1804)

About electricty:

1752 Benjamin Franklin invented the lightening rod - he demonstrated lightning was electricity.

Likewise, I believe electricity was more in reference to:

In 1879, the inventor Thomas Alva Edison discovered that a carbon filament in an oxygen-free bulb glowed but did not burn up for 40 hours. Edison eventually produced a bulb that could glow for over 1500 hours. The incandescent bulb revolutionized the world.

We also invented basketball of which this thread started at in reference; plus, let's not forget what were using to read and write this silly debate, the computer.

Anyway.... I wouldn't normally be such a nerd in pulling what I meant but I think one smart ass deserves another.... but I better stop now.

fair enough. wasn't trying to be smartass anyway, as most people here who know me well enough know. and thanks for proving my points hehe go USA basketball

i wouldnt call the US team second tier all-stars. There is no excuse for the b-ball they are playing. They have had more than enough wake up calls. I do agree though, that it is very hard to coach a bunch of players whose nba teams revolve around them. Proves though, that you cannot just throw a bunch of all stars together and receive exponential results. They are taking the olympics like the all-star game, nice and light.

Posted by Member of X on Aug-16-2004 18:43:

Shawn Marion, Amare Stoudemire, Lamar Odom, Carlos Boozer, Carmelo Anthony (now), Emeka Okafor are all-star caliber players but they aren't:

Shaq
Kobe
Garnett
Kidd
McGrady

That's all I meant. Or even Michael Redd who could actually hit a jumpshot. 3-25 from 3pt range? Yikes!

Obviously fielding a hodgepodge of (mostly) upper talent isn't gonna put the fear into Serbia-Montenegro anymore.

A year around squad that is more balanced with shooters and role players might be a better solution. The talent level in this country should muster up better than a thrashing by a country that is basically the size of one of our states. It's embarrassing for sure!

It's like Brazil getting smoked 3-0 in soccer by Slovenia.

team usa cant shoot. lol.. in the game of basketball, you need to hit jump shots one way or another.. if you cant do that, youre gonna lose.
