So my wife came home today . .

And tells me she doesn't want the baby.

I'm not against abortion, but if it's MY child, I am sure as hell fucking against it. Now she's saying that she can do whatever she wants, and is threatening to get an abortion . .

what the fuck do i do?

i think you should have a fair input into the decision. you shouldnt give it up jsut because one of you is scared. i would take a long look at reasons for keeping it or giving it up before you make that kind of choice.

Personally I think abortion is wrong and always have but the woman carries the baby for 9 months. With most marriages that I've seen this decision happen, the couple has always decided together because it's THEIR child, not just hers or his. I really have no clue about suggestions here because you say we are having it anyway, she might just get an abortion, it's a catch 22 here.

we talked for like 4 hours straight today . .

nothing . . i'm so lost

Posted by torontotrance on Aug-16-2004 20:28:

decisions like this take ages, a concensus will have to be reached at some point.

Posted by ShadoWolf on Aug-16-2004 20:28:

why doesn't she want it? you're a married couple

Posted by enferno on Aug-16-2004 20:30:

doesn't think we are ready. we have plenty of money coming in, a house, i work full time and could support us easily . . i just don't understand

Posted by klingklang77 on Aug-16-2004 20:34:

how old are you guys? that could be the reason that she doesnt think you are ready. this is a hard one. i dont know what to tell you. but she should have some respect for your decision.

Posted by enferno on Aug-16-2004 20:36:

26

Posted by Mattsanity on Aug-16-2004 20:38:

Damn man. You shouldn't of married her in the first place. That's my future plans when I'm at the age where should get married. Being single makes your life better.

You both undertook the responsibilities of sex. You knew that the only way to assure not having a baby was abstinence. If you have the means to support a child, you are morally obligated to maintain that life that you (if one of you isnt "ready" for it ((who is?))) so recklessly created. Wants and luxuries are out of the picture. Its an obligation that you both had realize was a potential and to snuff that out as it furiously divides trying to become a person because you werent quite sure that ejaculating into a woman would do this?

It sounds like you are all for it, but, and I know this is hard for a lot of women (some might be offended by this, but guys know what im talking about) because they tend to have issues when it comes to honor and obligation...but. She needs to realize the self-imposed duty that is inarguably present now. It isnt a matter of "keeping" or any of that crap. Its do you kill it. Shut off its infinite possibilities.

I guess im, again, a fossil when it comes to sexual morality, but really, this is friggin huge.

My mom was 18 when she had her first child. My dad was taking 25 credit loads of pre-med and graduated a year early after he found out...oh and he worked 2 jobs and was making house payments during all this.

It was an accident too. I gotta admit im pretty glad they didnt quit because it was going to be hard.

Kids these days...

Posted by Floorfiller on Aug-16-2004 20:44:

thats tough man. good luck to you with that.

i can only think that maybe she is scared to be a mother and or having the child...just comfort her and let her know what a wonderful mother she will be...and let her know that you guys are ready...i dunno what else to say...

Posted by klingklang77 on Aug-16-2004 20:46:

oh thats a reasonable age. i mean you guys are married and able to support the baby; i just dont know. are you guys newly married? have you been married for a few years? she might not want a baby just yet, perhaps she wants to enjoy the marriage for a bit without kids. that is the only thing i can think of. i mean i am female, and i just dont understand it. you DO have a say in it, but i have no idea what to tell you to say. but dont give up if you truly believe in it.

personally, and no offense here, it is a bit irresponsible to not have the baby. you have the means to give the baby a good life and are a good age etc. all things are right for having a baby, just seems a little selfish to me. i do believe in abortion, but i feel at a certain point, you should take responsibilty for your actions.

Heh, me too!! Well, she had hers last Friday. Welcome to the club.

As for Enferno, christ man, what a predicament. 26 is the right age to have a child, I would say. If you've got a house and a decent steady income, that's about as ready as anyone will ever get. Sounds to me like she's just getting cold feet. I mean, it's a daunting task to bring up a kid, but my sis is only 19. She had a few worries I'm sure, but with a little reassurance from our family, she had the baby, no troubles.

I think it's probably the same here. Just tell her that you think you're ready and that you'll both make very responible parents. I mean, you're all set up for a child, which is more than a lot of other couples can say, and that must go some way to prove how ready you are. Give her a bit of time, and with a little more encouragement she'll see that she's ready too. Good luck!!

Thats harsh....a kid is nothing to fuck around with,..THE HELL WITH ABORTION!!....good luck..dont know what to tell u,,,Streakfury hit it on the head though.. COnfort her and let her know shes ready...

BTW...Streak. What did your sis name her kid..??

Posted by Streakfury on Aug-16-2004 21:38:

As crap as it sounds, she called her Aylisha Jayd. Talk about a common-as-muck mother trying to give her kid a posh name (and failing miserably).

Ah well, it was her choice. Cute baby though.

Wow. I assume you guys discussed having children at some point before getting married. I am totally against it especially if the person is a married adult, but that is just my opinion. I'm sorry that this is happening to you. I can't begin to imagine your frustration. I hope things work out for you.

Posted by butterfly on Aug-16-2004 21:51:

what is her family's take on it?

Posted by DiMethGuy on Aug-16-2004 21:52:

father's have no rights these days its awful. yeah yeah yeah women carry the baby and all that jazz but it's his kid too. so if he wants it he should be able to keep it. she spread her legs knowing full well what might happen. now's she getting cold feet? bleh. time for a paternal rights revolution. starting with the repeal of roe v. wade.
