So my friend got married...

So my friend got married...

... to a girl half-way across the world..

... whom he's known for five weeks...

... for five thousand dollars.

Today, one of my oldest friends got back from a five-week vacation to his native Asian country. He called me and said that he got married. I almost pissed my pants laughing. Then he told me he wasn't kidding. It still hasn't sunk in for me, let alone for him. He still doesn't understand what he's done and what consequences his actions will have on his life.

When he went there, he was immediately introduced to the daughter of his parents' friends who still live in Asia. He was offered five thousand dollars to marry her and sponsor her to come to Canada. He took the deal because the marriage wasn't supposed to be for real. But after five weeks of sleeping in the same bed and taking her virginity, something happened. He fell for her.

Now he's planning to stay married to her. He's gonna help her come to Canada and move out of his house. He's 20 years old and has no education or career. This girl is probably younger, doesn't speak english and has no marketable skills. If he does this, he's fucked for life. End of story. And the scariest thing is that he's got no clue.

He still doesn't understand that this was the plan all along. He couldn't have "just" sponsored her because she has no one here and would have no place to live. He thinks he chose to marry her and chose to fall in love with her, but in reality, he never had a choice. It was made by others. His destiny was decided by others without his knowledge or involvement.

$5000, what a sucker

I know a girl who did that this year and got paid $11k...don't worry, I agree with you...I think she's crazy too.

i think his parents might have tricked him for the money.

i hope things work out for him. u never know. he's young, he must have some potential.

dude your friend is fucked, only 20 years old, im that age and i cant imagine being married, i really hope for the sake of your friend that things work out for him coz it would blow if things turned out for the worst.

tell your buddy to use birth control, im sure he doesnt need a kid at this stage of his life if what you said is true.

Oh, i'm sure they've planned that too. A kid would seal the deal and force him to stay with her. Surely they couldn't have left that out?

a kid would turn half his shit into "everything but the $500 u need to pay rent"

Posted by ladybass on Aug-17-2004 04:57:

someone i know recently did this too...and he has a girlfriend that he has been with for a while.
the people who arranged it came and picked him up in the middle of no where at an early hour in the morning...drove him to the airport and off he went to marry this girl and get $5000 when all is said and done.
i still can't imagine doing this....but with this happening so often...it seems like it is getting easier and easier to buy your way into Canada....

Then he probably doesn't have any assets to be concerned about.

Yea, I think his point was that he never will have any assets to worry about if he marries this girl. *Yea I know.. it feels wierd sticking up for diabolic..

Why not?
If he's not going to have assets it's probably because he doesn't have an education or a career. You can't blame the woman for preventing him from persuing those things.

Posted by AwakenedAddict on Aug-17-2004 16:51:

You are right, but given that this woman would be depending on him financially, I don't think this guy would have enough cash to both support him and his wife and go to school. I mean it's hard enough for some people to support themselves and go to school, especially without any previous education or a trade. Furthermore, he is 20 years old.. who really has a full education or career by that can support two people, at that age?

To sum it up.. it's not the fault of women as a gender, just this particular one in this instance.

btw diabolic... pics or STFU!

Look on the brighter side. What if they really have fallen for each other? Doesn't love count anymore? When the girl does move here she could prolly get a job in the asian community without much trouble. There are many people who work in Pacific mall for example that have lived here for a long time yet can't speak a word of english. My parents started out in tiny room above someone's garage back home and now they've come so far. Life is what you make of it.

Its time to redraft the marriage laws to make it harder for women to cheat men out of their livlihoods and make custody issues more equitable.

The way it is now is very maternalistic.

You are so confrontational in every single post you make. Is it any wonder why people don't take you seriously?

"make it harder for women to cheat men out of their livlihood?" Fawk off.
