Phelps Chokes, Thorpey Powers!!

Mr Phelps how are you going on the record 8 gold medals?

How does being crushed under the Ian Thorpe bus feel?

Beating both the Americans and Dutch at the one time could only be bettered if you through the English into the mix, but everybody knows those bastards can't swim.

I'm waiting for the 4x200 relay

Posted by PhloTron on Aug-17-2004 07:49:

I don't see where he choked....phelps wasn't even the favorite, Thorpe was..and the Dutchy was proabably picked just as much to win/finish in the medals. The US coach didn't even want Phelps to swim in the 200 Free...and he still takes bronze.

He had a chance to win 8 golds...I don't think anyone actually thought he would do it...but if he gets 6 or seven medals....I don't think he will be considered a choker for doing that. And if it is....then all the other 11,000 athletes that don't medal...wow...they must be total losers for even trying.

a lost in a big match isn't a choke, it's only a loss if you're favored. he was a top contender for 8 golds, not the favorite.

Actually the british are quite good at swimming. Recently t GPS (school group that compete in swimming, atheltics etc against each other) South Port imported british swimmers. Not to say we didn't put up a good fight but they beat us in the last quarter. I say congrats to them as we import our Football players ... but we lost that even.

Phelps = wanker.

Go eat your words buddy.

I never saw Phelps winning the 200 in the first place, especially not after the qualification and semifinals..

I thought Thorpe would win, but of course I would have loved to see Van Den Hoogenband (that Dutchy ) win.. It just was not meant to be, Thorpe was too strong.

Phelps is still pretty talented though, and he already won a gold medal, he should be a happy man (or boy, as he's still only 19)..

Dust Motes, Golden Showers!!

After it's all done, it's still swimming....

Phelps wasn't favoured to win the 200 free, that's not his best racing style. The American media hyped him out of proportion, but I bet he will win another three golds.

You weren't complaining when we 'threw' your criminal asses out of the UK all those years ago

Bring on next summers Ashes series and we'll show you that we're now better than you

haha i havent been watching the olympic events throughly cuz alll the events are on at odd hrs for me. but, the male swimmers have def caught my attention. i dont even care for the events itself but mmmmm them male swimmers. awesome physiques!

now the female swimmers are totally something else. esp the ones the swim the butterfly... they are scary looking!

Why are we giving these athletes hell? They have no control over media hype. Is anyone on TA an Olympian or a former Olympian?

no but i used to swim NCAA...

you cant expect phelps to win in his off event, just like you wouldnt expect thorpe to win in the 400 IM. but at least phelps is good enough to make the olympics in pretty much anything he tried out in.

That is exactly my point. I was a swimmer and also did some diving. These athletes may not excel in every event, but they are far better than average. Just making it to the Olympics is an accomplishment within itself. Just as David said...Phelps was a contender. No one said OMG he is the ultimate winner of anything and everything that is Olympics!

So much hate for one Olympian. It's almost amusing. If you need to hate so bad go hate on the drug dealer standing on the street corner slinging heroin to 12 year olds.

I think Michael Phelps should be proud of his accomplishments so far in his life.

Michael Phelps

Became the first American in history to qualify for the Olympic Games in six individual events at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials.

In 2000, became the youngest American male swimmer (15) to compete in Olympic Games since 1932; finished fifth in the 200m butterfly.

Current world-record holder in the 200m fly, 200m IM, and 400m IM; at the 2001 Spring Nationals, became the youngest man to break a world record (15 years, nine months).

Became the first swimmer to set five world records at one meet at the 2003 World Championships; winning four golds and two silvers.

Won the prestigious 2003 Sullivan Award as the top U.S. amateur athlete.

First man in history to win titles in three different strokes at one national championship in 2003.

Finished 2002 ranked number one in the world in three events.

In three short years (2001-2003), has won national titles in six different events.

yeah i've seen them. they are definitely super lean as i said, but i think its because they are so tall...they don't look really buff like the gymnists...

they are in great shape though...

For a second I thought you were talking about Drew.
