James Dunham (ex-dj) & Legato @ Eli's Cribb this Friday

Well, thanks to Charley's visit last week, Forward Progress Fridays was brought to a temporary stand-still. This week, we're going to rock it extra hard with your very own FLTA, James Dunham (ex-dj) opening the night. He'll be playing the opening slot this week, August 20, followed by myself and the legendary Andy Hughes. I've heard Sander, Dave Seaman, Sasha, Tiesto and just about every big name out there in the past year, and there isn't much that has approached the energy that Andy brings when he graces the decks. After 20+ years as a DJ/producer, you can imagine that the man knows what he's doing.

My apologies ahead of time to all of the age 20 and under TAs. I tried to pull some strings to get the 21+ rule waived, but no-can-do. I'll keep trying for you, though. We've got some really good guests coming in soon and I'd love to see some of you out there.

See you Friday!

Lineup:

James Dunham 9:00PM-10:45PM

Legato 10:45PM-12:45AM

Andy Hughes 12:45AM-close

We'll see you there!

shweet, i was gonna post about this since i wasn't sure if you had got your power back on yet. mine was restored monday night, time to practice!

Posted by Legato on Aug-18-2004 15:32:

My power's still down, so I'm a bit rusty, but we'll be okay. I'll just put my blow-up DJ behind the decks.

I've been wanting to ride out to check out FPF for a while now and since I know there will be some good tunes this Fri I'll be there. How to I get to this place coming from I-4 (Daytona Beach)?

Get off at the 50 (Colonial Drive) exit. Follow the ramp to the light and turn left onto 50 there. Go under I-4, through the first light and over the railroad tracks to the next light, which is Orange Ave.. Take a right onto Orange. After going through your sixth light on Orange, which is Jefferson, Eli's will be on the right, 5 venues before Washington. There's no sign outside, but there is inside on the back wall. Out front, you'll see silver railing and you'll see mini-motorcycles in the window.

For parking, if you take a right on Washington, there's a coin-operated metered lot about an 1/8 mile on the right before the RR tracks, 50 cents per hour. If you take a left on Washington instead, your next light is Magnolia, the other side of which (on the left) is a pay lot which has a top and bottom-side lot, each with a central machine where you enter your space number and can use either cash or credit card to park, 75 cents per hour.

Any questions?

Owner must be a real hardass. I wonder what is his justification for 21+ rule.

I'm gonna try to be there

Well, it's more of a staffing thing. I think that law requires a certain number of security personnel for 18+ situations. A small place like that doesn't exactly rake in the dough, so it's hard to justify the extra staff member or two. It's not really about being a hardass. The owner is probably one of the coolest cats in Orlando. Eli's reputation precedes him, but it would be nice if we could do 18+ once in awhile. In order to do that, we would have to have enough business to justify it, and I don't see that happening for awhile.

Just in case you know what the Balance Record Pool is, he's number 4, so that basically means that he gets almost first pick from a pretty amazing promo list filled with all kinds of house and prog. It's always a treat when he breaks out a new choon and blasts the room with it, and he hasn't played in a month, so he's pretty excited about tonight. W00t!

Dude, you're the bomb. Big congrats on your opening for DJ Dan tonight! It's really cool to see my friends succeeding around here. Big ups to Myles for rockin' it all over this town!

And big ups to the Drop Shop who supplies me with most of my records. BTW, if you ever need any prog there, Myles and Davie will take good care of you!

Posted by BshidoHEAT on Aug-21-2004 04:25:

Damn, I would have went, but I was at my b-day dinner, and our waitress spilled some sause on me.

It's all good though, I got a free t-shirt out of it!

Great time & Great sets...I'll definitely be out there again. I had to leave a little earlier than expected because my friend was supposed to meet some girl (which he never bothered to tell me until around midnight) Oh and Legato I'd still like to take a look at that PSD file if you want to send a link my way...

Like we gonna turn the place upside down.

"Oh no, it is a teeny bopper invasion. Recruit more men for defense."

I know that law is law, but in my humble opinion, if you are a dumbass when you're 18, then you would not suddenly become smarter when you're 21.

Just my $0.02 on the issue.

It's not about angst or anything, but the extra staffing is necessary to be sure that 21+ people aren't "sharing" drinks with underage people. I know when I was 18-20, I had my friends buying drinks for me at Firestone (ahhh, those were the days...does that make me a senior citizen?). When that place is full, it's densely packed enough that the bartenders can't possibly watch everyone, and all it takes is one asshole cop and one reckless underage drinker to close a bar. Venue owners pay more than you can possibly imagine for a liquor license, and I'm sure it's a lot more to get it reinstated following a violation. Bigger places that make more money can take more chances (and as far as I know can pay off more local officials for certain "privileges"), so that's why almost all of the smaller places downtown are 21+.
