Question for those who use Winamp
Winamp is used by a lot of us and I've used 2.81 for a long time now and winamp tells me everytime I load the bitch to upgrade to 5. So should I upgrade to 5 or stay 2.81, I'd be happy to hear what you think.
Id upgrade. Its not really that different, and it supports more.
To me there's no recognizable difference while using the classic winamp skin.
I'm just tired of the lame bombardment from winamp and I'd hate to lose my current winamp skin, which is just a larger pic of my avatar
go for it man

I like the new version of Winamp 5.
It has all i need, and it never stuffs up for me, ever.

in Winamp 5 as resource friendly as 2.81?
cuz that was the big problem with 3?
Also, what about backwards compatability for plugins?
hmmmm...i upgraded and it kept my dido skin!
Yeah Winamp 5.X will keep your Winamp 2.X skins along assuming you don't delete them. Winamp 5.X is also a lot more resource friendly compared to 3. Good move toronto. :P
You should make a Winamp 5.X skin of your avatar... you could add some nice effects... somehow...

there was a thread about this a while ago and everybody was stating that 2.x is all you need....
and i agreed with them...
what the hell happened!!!!???111
hmmm, maybe those people arent here today

I downloaded the full 8mb version, 29 secs to do so on my l33t cable connection
they have lite versions as small as 468kb
Doh too late. But in case others are getting that pesky "Do you want to upgrade?" msg... You can turn it off!!!
Preferences -> Setup -> Check for new versions of WinAmp at startup
Just uncheck that and you should be set. I'm still using 2.91 without any problems. BTW, are 2.xx plugins compat with the new version? I'm still using mp3cue (what a great util!!!) and that's partly why I'm not bothering upgrading - besides what's new anyway?
Actually, let me go a bit further here... I mainly use WinAmp now cause of the cue support from mp3cue. For mp3 singles, I use iTunes. It's great, y'all should check it out. It's awesome for organizing your singles mp3 collection.
I used v.5 before but couldn't stand the loading time and the general slowness compared to 2.xx. I'm wondering when using the classic skin with v5 is it still slow?
I'm using v.5 but the lite version, so basically 2.x but without the reminders to upgrade, plus a few more features that I actually use.
Upgrade, but upgrade to 2.91
5x isn't worth it
search for text is always worth it
i was using 2.8, then i saw those cool skinns for 5.xx, batman skinn and stuff, thought i try , didn't really notice any problems.
if you have an average pc, the heavy skinns take up 5 seconds to start up when you start winamp, but you can always keep using the classic one, and the load up time is still less than a second.

IMO the new winamp has clearer graphics and skins, the visuals are better, even the sound quality sounds more tuned up. I luve the new winamp. UPGRADE!
