Question for people on Melbourne

Hi, I was going to be relocated to Melbourne from the US and was wondering if it was common for people to have fast access internet (DLS/Cable) in their homes/apartments? or do most people go to an internet cafe?

Sorry, we're a bit behind down here. What's an internet?

it's one of those little things that lets you to wear an eyepatch, a pegleg and a parrot surgically attached to your shoulder in the comfort of your own room ..

umm can someone post a serious reply? i am about to buy a new computer, but if fast internet is not that common in one's home, then i'd rather buy a laptop.

its just a bit more expensive then you guys pay for it in the US

Gongo I'm on 512 unlimited (no bandwidth caps, time caps, speed limiting etc) for around $80 AUD a month. Not too shabby.

There's a few good isps offering cable/adsl.

Take a look at TPG & IINET. Just google for australian sites.

yeah it is common to have adsl/cable in aus now.. altho it wasnt like that till sort of recently..

you can get optus/telstra cable here for around 70 bucks a month.
with optus for that price you get 12gig a month and its around the same for telstra as well.. if you're willing to pay extra then theres some other plans of course..

im not too sure about adsl prices though so ill leave that for someone else

I hate you so much Iprimus, you told me that $95 was good value for 3 gig a month!

Posted by basix21 on Aug-20-2004 10:55:

yeah im on netspace 512 ADSL 16 gb peak/16 gb off peak for $70/month

thanks.. i wasnt trying to be an ass.. it's just that i've been all over europe and most places there dont have cable/dsl in their homes. the same with most parts of asia that i've been too. even in Taiwan most people go to internet cafes because the infrastructure doenst support broadband that easily. I was not implying that australia was backwater or anything.

wow all i have to say is that most plans have max data transfer caps? wow that must suck
