Sound Forge Problems, (gap?)

all right for you guys that use sound forge, i was wondering if any of you know what a gap is? i will record a set and then go to play it back and some where in the set is a bunch of orange lines and @ the top it says gap. and where this "gap" is the sound is all fucked up. any help would be appreciated. thanks

I only use SF7 to play with mp3's, but I would have to guess thats a lag in the computer recording the incoming signal or possibly some interference in the signal.

yeah, if you have a slow hard drive it means it couldnt keep up with the recording, try doing it in mono instead of stereo, use defrag to optimize your hd and kill all background software when recording a mix...

werd appreciate the input, the only thing is that i am running everything the way i use to, but i reformatted last week do to new video card and mother board. and it just started doing it out of no where, i cant figure it out.

double check the motherboard vendor and see if they have updated ide drivers. I've noticed alot of pc's lately where they need the vendors drivers (not the autodetected ide drivers that windows used). I've seen this mainly on dells, but many motherboard manufacturers are using different chipsets to save money. just an idea.
