Like Nou said, getting into a record pool is near to impossible without being either signed to a big promo company or being a big name DJ. It's a nice thought - record pools. They don't just give away records to anybody. These are the first public "introduction" of the songs and they want to make sure that they are being played to large audiences and that the DJs that play them have good reputations.

I have been on a ton of different mailing lists and record pools and to be honest the majority of stuff you get is utter shite.

They really are not worth the time and effort. US ones in particular seem really bad of the ones I have seen (i.e. not good for trance).

You are actually better off buying the records you want rather than getting sent crap you will never play. I get sent stuff but I still buy a lot of records the only difference is I get to write it off as work materials for the tax man.

Had a friend who got into a record pool and the stuff he recieved was complete shit. Basically all the good records gets sent to the important Djs first, leaving the leftovers for everyone else. I was just lauging at him though cos he had been braging his arse off that he would never pay for a record again serves him right

Well it is a good thing provided that isn't your sole source of obtaining records, because as Nem pointed out earlier most of the records in these pools or mailing lists are SHITE save for the occasional winner.

I've spoken to some experienced djs about this before and altho they are on mailing lists and in pools.. they hardly pay attention to any of the tunes there. They'd rather just pay for the vinyl and get what they want.

Cheers
