Hello! Something different for you guys to check out

I been on TA for over 4 years now so I know what type of music the user base likes but after being blown away by Sasha - Involver I decided to take a stab at a multi-genre 1 CD mix. I hope you guys will check it out even if it's not entirely trance, you just might be pleasantly surprised.

DJ Rain - Departure:
http://awesome-possum.net/audio/djr...parture2003.mp3<--- brand new URL

CUE File: http://awesome-possum.net/audio/djr...parture2003.cue

The link will expire once bandwidth fills up so if it's gone you can try messaging me at AIM: Supergeek915 or [email protected] and I'll try to get u a copy of the MP3. Thanks TA peepz for making this place one of the best electronic music forums on the net, period.

Party Hat This is good stuff

I played this mix at a house party last nite cos our DJ showed up late and a lot of people went up to the cd deck to see what was playing and also asked me if they can have a copy. I really like this mix!

Hi,

I'm listening to the mix, sounds nice! But a tracklist, would be welcome. Anyway, it's nice to have something fresh to hear. Can you tell how you did the mix? Did you do some editing or something? What medium did you use?

Posted by Puuhis on Aug-28-2004 16:35:

This mix is mint!

There's a cue file in the same directory....

Here's the tracklist:

01. Pako & Fredrik - Intro (Original Mix)
02. Trafik - Your Light (Forth's Re-boot)
03. Pako & Fredrik - 45 Minutes (Medway Remix)
04. Deep Dish - Flash Dance (Bootleg Mix)
05. King Unique - Sugarhigh (Original)
06. Accessive Rhythm - Activate (Original Mix)
07. Tone Depth & Soul Tan feat. Stephanie Vezina - Broken (Jiva's Mix)
08. Luke Chable - Melburn
09. Bedrock - Emerald (Grayarea's Speakeasy Mix)
10. Trafik / Your Light (Luke Chable's Break Mix)
11. Blackwatch & Greed - Gentle Rain (Grayarea's Dismembered Breaks Mix)
12. Scrambler feat. Amarevois - Free (LoStep's Class of '95 Reunion Remix)

I'm glad you like the mix, it was done on 2 turntables and a CD deck. The idea behind this mix was to incorporate all the styles I listen to into one neat 80-min mix. It took over 6 months to find the correct tracks so it's been a long journey for me. I'm sure two of the tracks on here are familiar to TA people (track 05 and 06) because Tiesto used it in his famous Club Space mix back in '03. I fell in love with those 2 songs so much that I played them back to back and realized they fell in perfectly but only if I slowed Activate down to 128BPM. The original full version was over 86 minutes long so I had to chop it up on computer. I edited track 1, 3, 4 and 12 so if you have the original versions check out what I did to it ^^. Thanks for the feedback.

DJ Rain,

First off, I just wanted to say that I think your "Departure" mix is excellent.

Secondly, let me add that I am usually not a fan of the mixes I hear on these boards. I know that is harsh, but let's be honest, for every mix like "Departure" that genuinely is pretty unique and refreshing, there's a few dozen amateur mixes that are loaded to the brim of all the newest mp3 rips of whatever the big name djs are playing that month. Anyway, enough bashing of others. I just wanted to clarify that I'm not particularly easy to impress with mixes.

Here's a mix that is not afraid to play tracks that are "old" by TA standards. Here's a mix that really reflects a large amount of time being put into it. All the tracks flow just right into each other, the beatmatching is subtle and precise, with just enough elements of the incoming track laid over the outgoing one to really get you excited to keep listening. Basically, when I normally listen to an online amateur mix, I'm left with the feeling, "I could do so much better than this". This mix, however, left me feeling, "I've gotta get better so I could do something like this".

Alright, keep up the good work, you really did impress me with your work. I look forward to hearing more from you in the future!

Well, I think Stasis said it all. I especially agree on what he says about the use of "old tracks". Keep it up!

(And thanks for the tracklist)

Thanks Stasis. I already started brainstorming on my next project which I want to incorporate new (for me at least) styles of transitioning between tracks instead of the normal use of beats matched as a method of transport. I also want to incorporate even more diverse styles of music such as more rock and ethnic music but at the same time making it all very danceable because after all it's called "dance music". The tricky thing about playing new material is to inspire listeners without alienating them. My motto has always been Don't be a crowd pleaser, be a crowd teaser - and that's part of the reason why I made Departure. I'm satisfied with the mix but I know I can do better and do more so hence my next project. Anyhow, thanks for everyone who wrote in by email as well because I got some great responses!

excellent prgramming!!

I can see that you spend some time thinking about this mix. The beauty of it really shows. Wish more DJ would take the time like you did to really think about what to play.

Posted by Clovis on Sep-10-2004 06:50:

Seriously...I just finished listening for the first time...this is really a work of art...

This needs to get out there...

This is an awesome mix - the above quote is one of the main reasons why this mix is so badass. The care and energy you put into this mix really show when listening.

It flows well and the tracks lock tightly together in the mix. If you played this to me and said it was the latest Renaissance DJ mix release, I wouldn't blink an eye.

Well done bud, but now I have even higher expectations for your next mix.

Regards,
JM-8

PS - do you play out anywhere in the city by the bay?

Sorry for the typo in the cue file but the track is by Bedrock and not me haha. I wish I can produce gems like that. ^^

JM-8,

Thanks for putting me and Renaissance in the same sentence, that made my day LOL! I'm already starting on my next project but I doubt you'll remember me by the time I'm done ^^;; And I don't spin at any clubs actually, I'm just a bedroom DJ that does house parties once a while. I need more experience under my belt before I promote myself. This mix is not really a promotional mix but rather something I wanted to share with people because I love each and every one the tracks in it. I've passed out a lot of copies of the mix to friends and I never once put contact information on it except "DJ Rain - Departure". Hope you guys enjoy this mix and please spread the music if you love it.

definately a keeper.

already mentioned flow, trans, hardly amatuer.

This is definitely a keeper - very tight mixing, very good flow throughout the entire mix.

Looking forward to your next project already

Thanks for the comments guys, I can't say how happy I am. Work has already begun on the follow-up "Arrival", no clue when that's gonna be done cuz I'm still looking for the right tracks, stay tuned.

wow guys what a post downloading it now
just can't wait to hear this one

Posted by Steve Stephano on Nov-26-2004 13:45:

Since reading the great reviews in this thread I downloaded the mix and have tried to listen for the last 2 nights. But both times I fell asleep around the third/fourth song.

Don't take that is insult though, what I have heard so far I like very much, but I can attribute the falling asleep to tiredness from work.

I will try to listen over the weekend again. Very much looking forward to listening to this mix in full!

EDIT:

I was expecting good things for this mix and wasn't disapponted. The mixing was spot on as was the selection. I find this mix very relaxing and chilled.

I haven't heard many of the tracks previously, so cannot comment on your edits.

I've listened in full 4 times now and I like it more each time.
