Unable to use 4 channels in Traktor 1.06

i've always used Traktor with just the stereo sound from my headset, but now i want to be able to have a monitor and to hear the queued track, so i've tried to use the 4-channel option at preferences:

but when i click OK i get this error:

to my knowledge there's nothing that uses the soundcard at that time, so i'm stuck with using 1 channel again. anyone able to solve this mystery?
