whats the trance scene like in melbourne?

Hey everyone,

I just finished up Uni, and a freind and I are thinkg about doing some travelling. One of the places we are considering spending some time in is Melbourne.

However, right now, there is nothing I enjoy more than DJing, so I want to go somewhere where I can get involved in the scene, meet people, and get oppurtunities to spin.

From what I can tell, Melbourne seems to be a pretty vibrant city. Can anyone offer me any information on what the music scene is like there? What type of genre is perferred, is it a healthy scene?

Thanks,

Andrew

its a healthy scene

with main inflences leaning towards progressive house, and melodic trance with the typical sub cultures of hardhouse/hard trance and techno...

that sounds right up my alley. i play a blend of progressive trance and melodic trance. i just finsihed the mix i am going to be bringing along with me.

its oging to be on a server in a few days, i should post it up in this fourm and get some opinions.

Melbourne has everything....

From mainline urban and hip hop *shudder*
To progressive and melodic trance.
To warehouse techno and breaks parties.
To almost underground hardstyle raves

lol.

about those asian night fliers.....i get burried in them everytime i open my letter box!

like Tachyon, im pretty much a trance purist i dont listen to other generes at all and i find at times im limited in places that i can go out too...but when an event comes along that i know ill enjoy the wait is worth it. attending events that are held weekly, to an extent, i find, loose their charm than ones that are held monthly.

bring on the 3rd of september

perhaps pathetic was too strong....maybe i should have said below average...

soups, the warning still stands

Melbourne still holds its own as one of the best places for trance in Australia. Might not compare with cities o/s, but if you are coming to Australia, I wouldn't go past it.

V.. glad I'm not the only one with that problem! Such a waste of good paper I say

riight...

either way... whilst over seas scene's are better, its blatantly obvious that its due to their close proximity to the main hubs of trance..

there are some downsides to being our own continent

i think u just have to read the posts from melb users of these boards and then realise its a scene full of wankers.

there are some exceptions - the ones that dont wear "phats" and break conversations down to primary school level full of sexual innuendos. oh and that dont suck up to any self promoting dick flogging off his new mix of a different order of the same tracks that all the others are playing.

But i think thats pretty impossible (finding exceptions), even moreso in the trance / dance / hard dance /call it what you want / shit scene.

melb scene = a load of bunk for that reason.
