another newbie question

ok how do i record my set on my laptop..i already got soundforge what cable do i need to connect the mixer to my laptop? what goes to what? heeeelp

depends on your soundcard.

If your line in on your comp is a single socket the same as a headphone socket, you need an RCA to 1/4 jack cable.

The red and white split end goes into the master / booth / rec output on your and the single jack end goes into your line in.

If your soundcard (like mine) has RCA inputs on the line in (thats as before the red and white plugs (like on the back of your mixer)) then you need an RCA to RCA cable.

Both are very easy to get from most electrical / musical / pc retailers.

well i have this cable that i connect my stereo to the laptop too..do i use the same cable for the mixer? and with the stereo i connect the line to the headphone slot in the laptop..do i do the same to the mixer..connect booth to the headphone slot or to another slot?

You got the right cable, but you connect the line out from the mixer to the line in on your laptop. If your laptop is like my dad's compaq which only has a mic in and headphone out, you will need to buy a usb/ieee1394 or pcmcia soundcard.

any of it external? i dont wanna open up my laptop since it is still under warrenty.

none of the soundcards you can use on your laptop will void the warranty. The usb soundcards will plug into guess what? the usb port! same w/ firewire. And pcmcia slides right into the pcmcia card slot.

Check out the m-audio audiophile usb if you wanna just do some recording, or a Ozone if you wanna do some production as well. Or if you want a pcmcia solution, then check out the Echo Indigo series.
