JUNKIE XL (live)
(BMG, Amsterdam)

The Amsterdam based live-act Junkie XL started in 1995 and debuted in 1997 with their album Saturday Teenage Kick. Actually, Junkie XL is not a real band, but more a one-man-show by Tom Holkenborg, born on December 8th 1967 in Lichtenvoorde (The Netherlands). Junkie XL's music is a mix of rock and big beats, often compared with the sound of The Prodigy and The Chemical Brothers. The power of this music is absolutely best expressed in a live performance. Junkie XL is one of the first bands that plays modern electronic music and combines it with a good live show. Junkie XL's music is a mixture of styles; alternative dance with a rock-attitude. The real Junkie XL-feel is probably in Saturday Teenage Kick: an uptempo hip-hop beat with a groovy guitar and Rudeboy behind the mic. Junkie XL's name is based on what Tom Holkenborg described as his "studio-junkie" reputation. He's seen as a real workaholic. The XL is referring to the process of "eXpanding Limits" (of perception, reality, etc.). On stage Tom Holkenborg is the main man, the sequencer. All sounds played on stage come through his desk and he adds all kinds of effects to them. Please welcome Junkie XL to Atlanta for this very special night!!!

Kevin Bazell, known more popularly in dance circles as Kazell, has infected the American club scene with his unique brand of electronic dance music, stimulating crowds everywhere with his tough, funky and soulful grooves. A UK native and LA transplant, Kazell first arrived on US shores in 1991 and began infusing elements of the Mancurian acid house movement into the fledgling dance music scene on our side of the pond. He first gained notoriety in Atlanta as a favorite local resident at Liquid Groove. Kazell then relocated to Los Angeles in 1999. Kazell quickly established himself with residencies at the largest events in the West Coast, the legendary Liquified events and LA�s mega-club Spundae. Over the years, Kazell has been credited as a master of setting mood and building suspense in his DJ sets. He has earned the loyal support of DJs and fans alike - garnering a nod as one of the Top 5 DJ�s in LA Weekly�s 2002 Music Awards. Kazell�s sound blends various styles with a tough, uplifting and funky vibe of soulful percussive beats, angelic melodies and rhythmic waves of Electro-funk, House, Tribal-trance and Breaks. His eclectic mix and unique infusion of sound has drawn clubbers back to the club from one weekend to the next.

Hi everyone. I'm new to TA, but I've got a pretty cool story for you all. About a month ago I sent an email to Junkie XL asking him to come play here in Atlanta. I mentioned both liquified and 1150 in the email. I never got a response from him, but... here he is. I can't wait for the show. I saw him at Ultra this past year and was blown away. Hope to meet a bunch of you there...
