opening files in Fruity Loops?

I have been using FL 3.56, and was planning on remixing a friends track that he made on another version. i couldn't open his file on my version, so I downloaded the Studio version. FL Studio lets me open his track, but almost every sound he used has a red box, and won't play those sounds. I have abolsutely no idea what the problem is or how I can fix it. Thanks for any help.

he's probably using VST's or Samples which you dont have on your hard disk (local host)

I don't think he's using samples...what are VST's?

A VSTi is a synthesizer that operates inside of your sequencer

^ great info on some of the best VSTis.. but a lot more have been released since the original post was updated

thanks for the reply. but I'm almost positive this kid didn't use any kind of outside hardware to make his track. he made it entirely using FL. is there a way to download additional FL plugins to get these sounds?

When was hardware mentioned by any of the above posters?

Well, what do the things in the red boxes say?

The red channels mean that their samples are missing.
Missing synths give a warning and the channels dont turn red, btw.

thanks, thats what I figured. But I went on a few hubs and located those exact samples, downloaded them and put them into Fruity Loops. When I drag them over the corresponding red box, its still red. Any ideas?

Why don't you ask your friend to send you the samples you use

you can export fruityfiles in a zip! ask your friend to export as a .zip! that zip you can open with your FL and you have all the samples he uses!

If you put the correct samples into the sampler(s), the box will remain red until you change it's colour manually.

If you re-open the FLP file it will display the default colour, as long as FruiyLoops can find the samples.
