Where can I buy shock absorbers to put under my turntables? I tried looking around and is not having much luck. Thanks.

Dont some people cut a tennis ball in half or something like that and stick a couple on the feet.

yeh, that's a popular method...
as for the freefloats, never tried them actually, and don't look that great to me, but a lot of clubs are using them and big events etc, so it must work I dunno lol

I've got a pair of free floats.

I've found them by and large pretty useless. Maybe I'm just using them wrong ?

I've tried them inflated hard, deflated mildly and deflated largely. They all suck. The 1200's don't sit level if they're deflated too much (back is heavier than front).

The instructions say to over-inflate them and then deflate them until they fit the feet well, but I'm really struggling to find anything useful from this product.

All I can think is that someone is paying all these DJs a heck of a lot of money to endorse this product. Of course, maybe when you become a superstar DJ, you get the smarts to use this highly technological balloon. Maybe if I practice hard everyday I will get those smarts too.

Those things look so tacky. Like lifeguard preservers or something.

Actually they kinda look like the Cingular logo (cel phone provider here in the USA for those not familiar)

Posted by D Dubya on Aug-28-2004 18:10:

lol, those do like the Cingular logo. And, everyone I have talked to that owns a pair tells me they are the most worthless pieces of shit ever. My advice would be not to get them and invest in a couple tennis balls as was suggested earlier.

Also try neoprene rubber pieces that can be cut from thick mouse pads, old typewriter pads, and cushions sold in camping supply stores. These will reduce a certain amount of acoustic vibration.

Go to the tool department at sears. Ask for drawer lining material. About $20 for MORE than enough. It's about half an inch thick, firm, and soft. Like thick Neoprene.

Could someone describe the tennis ball usage :P ?

Posted by dan_Saviola on Aug-29-2004 14:45:

so do the turntable feet sit nicely in the tennis ball halves????

Posted by Rick D on Aug-30-2004 08:51:

what aout the silicone gel wristrests you get for keyboards and mice pads, might be worth a try

Go to your local fabric shop...It will be wierd with all grannys looking at you...but, just get some 1 1/2 inch foam for stuffing.

You can spray paint them black or silver to make them look slick.
I use them and its amazing!!!!

Sorry dude...

Burn them, and kill anyone who tries to sell these to you. Shame on Tiesto for using them in his video. That is just shameless product placement aimed towards the less experienced. They are total toilet and shouldn't even be on the market. Biggest waste of money ever!!!

As stated earlier...
If you really need shock absorbers then get some tennis balls and cut them in half and place them under each corner under the deck. Be careful when cutting the tennis balls.

Cheers

hehe I never used them actually and I only saw them once, in a shop, but didn't pay much attention to them but by his question I thought he was looking for them, as as you said, they are being quite popular now, appearing in tiesto dvd, nature one, etc

I use carpet padding and it works great. lined my table with padding and then put speaker carpet over the padding for aesthetics.

i have never had anything skip on me.

just go to home depot or some store like that and get the thickest carpet padding they sell. they may even give you some scraps.

He he, don't worry man.
I know you were just being helpful. My problem is actually with the likes of Tiesto.
They are actually a bit of an enigma as I have never actually seen anyone that likes using them. Yet they are still going strong on the market.
I have never seen them in a club either as a DJ or clubber. Never.

Yeah I picked up a pair of the freefloats from guitar center... they had some promo so they were only like $10. It does help with bass feedback... I threw a party and had my tt's on the back deck and the vibrations were causing all sorts of feedback. Put the freefloats on and it took care of it. The bad: 1. tt's dont sit nice on them 2. its almost impossible to keep things level. 3. they just look plain stupid.

Posted by DjVash on Sep-03-2004 19:22:

I prefer a simple sidewalk tile. Works like hell, keeps your tt balanced and doesn't look that stupid

could we get a picture from that

Posted by DjVash on Sep-03-2004 22:43:

I don't use them at home, not necessary. But there are constructions sold with a pavement tile also meant to stop feedback (though very expensive). I'll try to get a picture

Those are the ones I'm talking about, there's a tile below the framework that prevents feedback. It's hard to get a decent picture because I can't find shit about them.

Posted by djsaryn on Sep-04-2004 00:04:

i havnt tried this, but you may be able to use a tt case. throw it in there and the foam in the case should absorb alot of shock and vibrations.

BUMP!!

Instead of starting a new thread...

I threw a house party for New Years, and I usually have NO problem with skipping needles when my Setup is down stairs on carpet (cement floor underneath). But I moved it upstairs, still carpet floor (obviously wood framing underneath), and the moment people started dancing, so did the needle. and it strangely got progressively worse as the night went on.

Now I have T-balls already cut in half, and have tried them down stairs in my room and have never seen much of a difference. However I am wondering if they would have helped upstairs.

It just kinda confuses me when I watch Sensation and they are using these bloody orange pillows and the DJ is up on the table and dancing and running around and the needles don't skip. Yet everyone keeps bashing them.

Any recommendations? Should I try the T-balls next party I have, or try these things?. I read everyones posts that hate them, but like I said, when you see DJs jumping around on the same table as the TT's are sitting on without any skipping it makes me wonder.

To me my odyssey flight cases only make it worse. When i owned a road ready case i think the softer foam absorbed the sound better than the stiff hard foam found on odysseys. Just by having a deck in a odyssey case and resting the needle on a record i get feedback, but w/o the case my decks seems to work much better.

I would try the tennis ball trick, another thing you can try is to set a heavy piece of slate/flagstone under the decks, that should hopefully absorb any shock.
