FBI Suspects Israel Has Mole in Pentagon -- CBS



WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The FBI believes Israel has a spy at the very highest level of the Pentagon who may have sought to influence U.S. policy on Iran and Iraq, CBS News reported on Friday.


The Israeli embassy immediately denied the report.


"The FBI has a full-fledged espionage investigation under way and is about to ... roll up someone agents believe has been spying, not for an enemy, but for Israel, from within the office of the secretary of defense (Donald Rumsfeld)," the network reported.


CBS News said the FBI believed it had solid evidence the suspected mole supplied Israel with classified material that included secret White House deliberations on Iran.


The network described the spy as "a trusted analyst" assigned to a unit within the defense department tasked with helping develop the Pentagon's Iraq policy.


It said the analyst had ties to top Pentagon officials Paul Wolfowitz and Douglas Feith, both regarded as leading architects of the war on Iraq.


Asked about the CBS report, a spokesman for the Israeli embassy told reporters: "We categorically deny these allegations. They are completely false and outrageous."


CBS said the spy was believed to have been passing secrets to Israel through intermediaries at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), a pro-Israel lobby.


"Our sources tell us that last year the suspected spy ... turned over a presidential directive on U.S. policy toward Iran while it was 'in the draft phase'," the network said.


"This put the Israelis -- according to one of our sources -- 'inside the decision-making loop' so they could 'try to influence the outcome'," CBS reported.

israel will prolly do everything it can to use the US to get rid of its enemies in the middle east...i wouldn't be surprised if this individual did indeed influence foreign policy (the CNN report does hint at this) in the middle east

Lying to Israel?

Lying to them? How can the US possibly lie to Israel, when you have Israeli agents like Paul Wolfowits, Elliot Abrams, David Perle all who were related to the Iran-Contra scandal influencing American foreign policy. Of course, all of whom have ties to Israel, this goes back to Henry Kissinger folks... I don't believe it is a case of our government being hijacked in the interest of a foreign country, it's more along the lines of our government selling out to the Political lobby groups such as AIPAC, and more specifically influenced by groups like Jinsa, PNAC, American Enterprise Institute.

Weather it's under Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush Sr., Clinton, George W., or John Kerry are government has a long history of Israeli informants influencing our foreign policy that will prophetically bring all "progress" ,that American's hard earned tax money pays for, domestically and internationally to a screeching halt and so begins our decline as a nation.

Compromising to the demands of a foreign body that has in no way directly contributed to or benefited our lives as Americans, but instead uses our money, and top secret intelligence to build it's nuclear warheads and uses our men and women to fight it's wars with it's neighboring countries, is destroying if not destroyed everything that our country stands for.

A. I can assure you you have spies from many different countries throughout the ranks. If Canada has a spy agency (CSIS), im sure there are plenty of others that do as well.. they certainly arnt there to spy on themselves.

B. Israel is an ally and a friendly nation , its not like its russia or China. Get over it.

C. You can't obviously blame other countries. What do you think the CIA does with the billions of dollars in funding it gets? Its ok to spy on other counties but its an entirely different moral issue if it happens to us? Meh

The crucial fallacy with your assertion, is that you assume a so called "friendly" nation, is spying(whoops i mean gathering intelligence) for "friendly" Allied research purposes. As if it was Canada, for example, covertly using "our" intelligence to research and gather analysis for its own good.

However, the main differences to a nation such a Canada compared to that of Israel:

A. Is that one of these nation is under a constant security threat, a direct consequential result of policy and actions it has chosen against a people of a displaced and occupied nation.

B. Is that one of these nations has ,at last count,at least 200 Nuclear warheads (as discovered to the public in 1986 , reconfirmed from satellite images in July of 2000), a direct violation of the UN's IAEA. On top of the unsurmountable proven evidence of nuclear "warheads"(not just reactors), this nation still maintains to flat out deny possession and to this day will not allow UN (not just American) Nuclear Arms inspectors in the country.

C. One of these nations, has been issued over 70 Resolutions for Violations against United Nation policy for the abuse of Human rights and occupying lands that do not belong to it. Further instigating conflict and a part of the world that has only seen intense violence for the past 50-60 years.

There are a lot of moles in a lot of intelligence agencies in the world. Intelligence is very valuable to a lot of countries and it does not surprise me if Isreal had someone feeding them information at times. It would not also surprise me if the US gov't had a bunch of moles in different intelligence agencies. You can't trust anyone these days, we all know what russian spies did to the CIA and what american spies did to the KGB.

I'm surprised Israel needs a mole, dont they have a direct line to the white house. We luv Israel so much we smile while they fark us up the pooper.

There is nothing difficult to understand about why Israel spys on the US, if you think about it. Perhaps being a Psychology student makes it quite clear to me. Israel suffers from 'delusions of paranoia'. When you're paranoid, you'll keep a close eye on not only your enemies, but also your friends. Ever hear the saying "keep your enemies close, and your friends closer"? Bingo.

I think the saying goes, "keep your friends close and your enemies closer"

and yes israel is paranoid. wouldn't you be paranoid if you killed someone or stole someone's home? wouldn't you be paranoid if you were surrounded by people that hated your guts? what's so hard to understand about that?
