For Fcuks Sake-another Hdj1000 Warranty Claim!!!!!!!!

This is beyond a f*cking joke now.
Now onto my FOURTH pair, and this will be my third replacement under warranty

First pair: 6 months- still worked perfectly, but one cup had something rattling inside.

Second pair: Lasted a month, total usage: 9 times

Third (current pair): 3 weeks- total usage: 7 times- estimated use <24 hours

yep, tonight the right cup just decided to stop mid mix-awkward as i use split cue most of the time.
If i put the band over the top of my head, it will work intermittently, if i have it going behind my neck like i always have done, doesnt work at all.
Thankfully, my trusty sony mdrv700s were in my bag as spares (never doing a gig without a spare pair now- ever) and as always they worked.
They may crack, but at least they fucking keep working no-matter what you throw at them.

They are IMMACULATE- they even smell new for fucks sake, as does the bag.
They have never been kept in my box or bag, they are kept seperate in the boot of my car so they dont get crushed.
They are carried in seperately and have not been dropped.
When i get home from work, they stay in thei carrying bag on top of my UDG softbag until the next weekend when i pick them up again.
what.
the.
Fuck

USELESS.

My dealer is going to:
A)punch me
b)punch me
c)think im pulling some sort of scam
d) tell me to fuck off and punch me
e)tell me to fuck off and punch me and bar me from his shop for ever

Owch. Well, at least youre getting your moneys worth. Pioneer isnt making too much money off of you!

Posted by dukes on Aug-29-2004 11:50:

be more gentle with them.

Posted by chesco on Aug-29-2004 14:21:

I'm also onto my fourth pair.

Good sound shite build quality.

Posted by dartman on Aug-29-2004 15:42:

that sucks. at some point you have gotta draw the line. how much bettter is the pioneer's sound quality than the sony's? maybe you should make the sony's your #1 pair of 'phones and keep the pioneers as back ups. but then if you need to use the pioneers and they break..... not cool. (shakes head)

i AM gentle with them.

They are treated with great care

To answer the above question- the sound on the pioneers is far superior to the sonys, especially at louder volumes where the clarity is much better.

I think you need some new ears.

From what I've heard Freak say, he could actually use a new pair of ears .

freak, that sucks, cause even though they are under warrenty, the shop will be like "WTF! You broke them AGAIN!?". Maybe you should move on to a differant pair of phones, sens maybe ?

Posted by DjVash on Aug-29-2004 16:53:

For instance. But if he thinks Sony's sound like crap, Sennheisers will sound like crap too because they both have very neutral sound.

Why dont you suck on my hairy balls

Firstly, where did i say that sonys sounded crap?
I used them for years- they are fine
I do this for a living dickshit.
Ive used and owned more pairs of headphones than most people.
After extensive comparison in several venues at a variety of voumes and conditions up to and exceeding 120dB ambient noise floor, it is my professional and personal opinion that the pioneers have greater clarity at higher volume than the sonys.
They also sound better overall- the sonys are good, but the pioneers are better.
re:sennheisers
I have owned: sennheiser HD25s, HD25Sps, hd 200s and some others which i wont bore you with.
HD 25s are some of the finest headphones available, if you ignore the fact that they break and leave your ears tired in comparison with other 'phones after prolonged use. They also do not have a coiled cord.
I do have a pair still- i tend not to use them much,as again i prefer the pioneers.

`pr0digy- my ears are fine in regards to health and frequency response- had them tested a while back. As long as i keep using the plugs they will be lasting a long while yet

Headphones is one of the aspects of djing down to personal opinion and experience.
I dont give a crap about fashion or looking cool- i just want them to work and last and enable me to do the best job i can.

This thread was posted as an update to my continuing saga of breaking headphones, and the excellent way pioneer have dealt with my warranty ( so far)- not as a flame thread.

sucks when shit breaks but at least your getting brand new pairs for free.

For some reason, I find your last sentence violating the first two lines of your post.

You say Sony's don't sound better overall. Might I ask which ones? For instance, the two best headphones by Sony (V700 and V900) go very hard without messing up the music. The volumelimit where a V700 starts to deform and where a Pioneer starts to deform is way higher at the Sony. Further, the sound a Pioneer produces is slightly deformed, and a V700 and the V900 don't have deformed sound. The HD-25 doesn't have deformed sound either.

Have you ever tried the regular HD-25? I've never heard anyone breaking them. That reputation mostly goes to Sony with the MDR-V700 (which is definetly true, they made a construcion error with that phone).

I would've agreed with you if you said that the V700 is one of the finest headphones available, but they are bound to break. That one is just a matter of time. And ofcourse choosing a headphone is a personal opinion (for instance, ppl believe that the V700 is too tight around the ears). But when one chooses a headphone which has deformed sound by default, i'd call it a waste. Especially when they say that deformed sound is better than undeformed sound (which is the case if you say the Pioneer sounds better than the Sony's).

Ofcourse not all Sony's are neutral: I've got a very old V100 over here (never used it for DJ'ing) and that one definetly isn't neutral. Starting from V600, they produce pretty good headphones (and that's funny, because the V600 and the V500 have the same drivers. They just perform better in a bigger housing). The V500 and V700 are known to break, the V600 and V900 practically NEVER break.

And when it comes to Pioneers: Those things break like hell too. The cord seems to be very vulnerable, which is something I do NOT want to see in such an expensive headphone. I've also heard complaints about something rattling in your ear (including yours)... So I don't know why you're so hung up with Pioneer when you broke 3 already.

I've had sony v6's and senn hd280pro's for over a year now, they've been been banged the hell around, stepped on a few times, crammed into places, cords tripped over, and they still work perfectly.

Posted by `pr0digy on Aug-29-2004 23:40:

I don't visit this forum nearly as much as I used to, but it seems like there's plenty of new people here. I think some of these people need to get a clue... People like Freak are among the most respected on the board. I think perhaps a few people need to show a bit more respect. Don't scare away the few people that really add to the discussions here, the few that post REAL info, not just regurgitated shit that gets reposted over and over...

Sorry to go off on a tangent there, but eh... yeah.

That's what I said. V600's practically NEVER break. The V700 and V500 however DO break.

Here you can see a nice V700 in the early phase of breaking.

Yea its funny watching people come in and mouth off to people. Especially on a board like this, were people might actually be professional DJ's.

Who knows? Just because I'm new to this forum doesn't mean I'm new to DJ'ing

I've had 3 pair's of Sony V700's break on me. I couldn't take it anymore and so I purchased teh HDJ 1000. I have to say that those are a really nice pair of headphones. Design, sound and overall performance is great. I have noticed it's vulnerability when ur trying to fold them up to put into the bag. But I think with a little bit of care, they'll last long than the Sony's.

Posted by Special_K on Aug-31-2004 04:06:

ok....from now on all flame wars should be settled with bare knuckles boxing matches.

Posted by Special_K on Aug-31-2004 04:09:

Oh and by the way i have those same sonys. That part in the pic breaks all the fucing time, and im carefull with my shit. Its just such a flimsey piece of plastic that is meant to stand the pressure of you yanking them open to take them on and off....they could fix it so easily.

Anyway i took some small zap straps and tightend them around the cracked point then i super glued them in place.....so ghetto but it works

Posted by Freak on Aug-31-2004 15:07:

Ok

Update:
sat right here is Pair no 4.
Brand new
Even has that new smell, strangely enough the pair i returned did too still

Dealer couldnt believe it- but knows its not my fault.

We agreed if this pair goes tits up ill get a refund, or he will order anything else i like in.
Only other pair of phones i will consider now is the new Technics RP DH1200 (not the dj1200/1210- dont like the cups)

I also phoned pioneer, and the guy said they are getting a lot of returns for the same problem- glad the warranty is just a simple replace not repair job tho

Time will tell......

Posted by dartman on Aug-31-2004 16:25:

good luck with this new pair
