KarateKid Review: Markus Schulz @ the Guvernment (08.28.04)

sounded a bit like the set i heard him drop at Turnmills in London a few weeks back (he was actually touring with Armin for Armanda Records in Europe).. maybe with the exception of some of the tracks before i left the club. all in all it was an alrite performance altho some of the transitions didn't strike me as being the greatest. nonetheless it was a pretty decent set.

he also dropped a lotta tunes off his Coldharbor CD..

this was also my first time at the Guvernment since I got back from a long ass summer in Europe and boy what a difference it makes. nothing seems the same anymore. i'll refrain from commenting anymore on this subject to avoid inciting a possible forum furor..

as for the Guv, it wasn't super packed, a tad crowded, but not so bad that u couldn't find your own personal space to dance. that smoking bylaw seems to really help with this and it was interesting to finally see its effect since i haven't been around all summer long.

anyhow, it was a fun night and i was very glad to see a lot of you again after so long. hope to see some of you again tommorow on the boat cruise!

shoutouts to pettiscool, Bryan that's a sickass shirt.. i still regret not getting that 'dealer' one

this is MarkT from beanieboy's place...I'm too trashed too remember my password to login

review? That's easy...Markus Schulz KICKED MY ASS all night long. That's the 2nd time this year...first was Marco V...now Markus.

I LOVE parties in Guv the week before a big event...good crowd, room to dance...LOVE IT!!!!!

What a wicked set...that was yummy dark goodness...yet he somehow still worked in Satelitte...WTF...perfect...ended with the darkest stuff I've heard since Richie Hawtin's Plastikman appearance @ System last year...wow...and I LIKED IT this time

MO was awesome to open (as usual)...and raised it up a notch when Markus finished.

Nice to *finally* meet RJ and to see Nat and Graham again

Markus (needs to calm down with the high frequency....piercing)

white room
no one on earth
Remy and roland Klienberg - pump it up (tune of the night)
satelite
burned with desire
peter martin - perfect wave

MO close (Killer old school trance set)
communication
Fantom manor

flash brothers - amen

too loud.... painful outside bathroom.
need to sleep.

its been a while since ive been to the guv as i think that if you go there to often it looses its appeal. It never fails to impress great music, great people, great craic. You people should be proud to have such a great place to party in your city.LONG LIVE THE GUV graham

Well I just got home so ill give you my two cents worth

Markus: Great stuff, solid though not AS solid as I had expected mixing wise. Different atmosphere then the radio so its kool. Loved how he was really into the TA's

Mark Oliver: What can I say, the guy is amazing, After everyone left but myself and like 4 TA's he:
1) Dropped Cafe Del Mar (MArco V Remix) and i started chanting Ol-li-Ver, Ol-li-ver and the went the mic and started chanting mar-co V, Mar-co V.
2) He got a little crazy with his olive - not alone accapella and play that for 20 min
3) he sang "the end" to a remix of it at the end which was quite ammusing.

Guv: yeah busy but clean and nice people, though little more pushy then normal.

Crowd: as Markus pointed out to me they seemed quite lack luster during his set.

TA'S: shouts and respect to everyone i met, new and old. made it a great night. Looking forward to seeing you all at LOL

Overall a good 9/10 night, just want I needed to finish off the summer and prepare for LOL.

Ampz

ps. I did get an Interview with him, he has some new tunes out with Jes, Anita Kelsey & a new album out soon. You will beable to download it in a few weeks off of AmplifiedRadio.com

Well overall it was another great night at the guv.

Markus Schulz kept me dancin' the whole time, then Mark took over and same thing, just didn't stop. MO's encore was The End with him doing the vocals...it was awesome

DJ Ampz: it was nice to finally meet you, and it was great partying till the end with you.

see you all at LOL, only 6 more days!!

Danielle

Excellent evening. Mark Oliver's opening was superb. Based on his opening I knew MarKus Schulz was going to be kicking my ass all night, and he did. Gov was just right, no too crowded, not too hot. Markus played so many great tracks. I was nice to have some Synth and vocals added in to the beat for the night. Wow.

Time for my REAL review (and not Graham's under my acct)

That was THE best set of trance since the AVB boat cruise!!!! Anyone who missed out sucks!

Mark O proved once again that he is the master of playing to the headliners. Their sets couldnt have been matched any better. You KNOW it's gonna be a great night when Mark starts off with such a killer set like that. Markus then treated us for the next 3 hrs to pure bliss. Once the stage opened up at 2am (why do they wait that long anyways?), we took position to the right of the DJ booth, and it didn't take Markus very long to figure out who the TA's in the room were. Especially when all of us were singing the lyrics to "Satellite" at the end of his set. Thanks for coming to talk to us on the stage after the set, Markus! All the best in your upcoming HUGE career.

k thisis gonna be totally contrary to everything mentioned so far....

but i was bored as fuck by the 4/4 beat and left at 3:30.....was expecting to hear alot of breaks.....but it wasnt like i had planned ot go fr this and was waiting anxiously so its all good...

i came back around 5:45 to pick up blue neon and as i waited by the car outside guv I heard all these classics that MO was spininng and fuck at that point i wished i was back in there...

*gasp*

u crazy

that was probably my favourite night at Guv since Scott Bond or Rank 1 (hmmmm...coincidently both of those, like this night, were before big parties...which equals room to dance, not too many losers, etc).

quote of the night was from a guy in line behind us who was up from Windsor and at Guv for the first time:

"whoa, they search you here???"

Posted by Cuzo on Aug-31-2004 01:42:

I had a great time despite Graham's killer farts.

Had an excellent time. Mark definitely played a great warm-up set in-line with Markus' style so it kept the night's music fluid and never felt like there was a division of music throughout the night. Props to Mark - he truly is the master of this and deserves credit for proving to the international DJs what T.O. has to offer in its locals.

Markus set surpassed my expectations and was good to hear some very Armin-esque tracks played and not to mention Markus' energy up in the booth which translated into a very similar Armin-type showing. I really do think that while he takes after Armin in a lot of ways, he definitely has his own style which I think is going to take him places soon and make him a fav with TA's everywhere.

Good seeing all the TAs out and partying with everyone - it was fun! Props to Markus for coming and chatting after with the TA massive - good to see DJs support those who support them.

Peace.

I also wanted to add that the sound in the Guv has improved loads as of late. Its about damn time they got that system tuned!

As for the whole 'Armin-esque' style of dancing in the booth (also identical to Tiesto's moves)- It's a total domino effect of DJ's copying each others 'dance moves'. Mauro copied Sven. Now, while it all looks like fun, some original moves are in order. (my 2 cents)

The night was great.

Markus exceeded my expectations - it was nice to hear him in a big room, on a big system and uninterrupted (no commercials! ). A++! Classic Markus style and tunes

Not only was the music awesome - but Markus is an AWESOME dood. Coming and talking to us after his set was friggin' AMAZING! NO guest DJ has ever done that @ Guv - kudos!

All and all amazing - come back soon Markus (Schulz - no T!).

lol.. i wonder if he was able to point out even one TA when he played at Guv 2 years ago

i don't even think 1/4 of the ppl here knew who he was !

What I wanna know is what is going on with the Guv crowd these days? I noticing a serious lack of energy and excitement from the masses. I first noticed it when Scumfrog was here. I mean, he's SO interactive with the crowd, they shoulda been going nuts. Same with Marcus. The only hootin and hollerin was coming from the stage where we were. I barely even saw a pair of hands in the air coming from the main floor. What gives???
