speakers-amps-booths-a question
1.right well basically i cant remember what the story is with amps and speaker wattage. is it that your amp must be of a lesser wattage than the speakers but onky just so that it is able to power them>? so a pair of 125each speakers could be powered by a 100per channel amp?????
so if you wanted to buy 400w each speakers your amp would need to be about 300w each channel???am i right or completely wrong?
2.also does anyone know what the score is with sorting out more speakers?? so for example in a club there will be way more than one set of speakers. is this because they have bought a v expensive amp with 6 or 8 channels??or beacuse theyve linked up another amp to , say, the booth output and added speakers to that channle????
hope youcan help

| Originally posted by Nou I dont know about your first one, I have always heard dont go over the recomended wattage for speakers... remember speakers have a rating for what they should handle normally, and then a ratting for what they can handle in short bursts... so if you have 400watt speakers... Im pretty sure your not gunna have a problem with a 400watt per channel amp. |

Yea with the first question, having a more powerful amp hooked up to ur speakers is safer than having a weak amp - just means that if you have a 200watt amp in 100watt speakers, you don't wanna crank the shit outta the amp.
Having a weaker amp means more opportunity for clipping - the amp can't handle the transients in the music (sudden peaks in the music which basically require extra power) and sends out a distorted signal the speakers. The distorted sound means a higher average amount of power running through the speakers leading to them blowing.
This is all pretty basic and light-on...this is because i can't remember everything that came in this little "Speaker Care" pamphlet that was shipped to us from JBL along with two tweeters which i blew.
Hope that helps somewhat
so if i upgrade my 125each speakers to say 300each im gonna need to upgrademy 100each channel amp quite a lot???
