alright im sick of hearing these yankee born snow bunny announcers talk about this "heat" that these athletes are experiencing in athens.
Right now theyre babbling about the mens marathon and how the weather conditions are tough. Ofcourse its a marathon any conditions are tough, but we're talkin 83 degrees with 43% humidity. FORTY THREE PERCENT humidity. It'll be 70 degrees by nightfall, with 43% humidity. THATS JACKET weather.
We're talkin low 80s, with relatively no humidity, with a nice constant mediterranean wind. I've spent many many months in greece, and believe me, the weather is fucking paradise.
Anyone whos done sports knows, it isnt the heat that kills you, its the humidity. It dehydrates you, and thats what causes you to overheat, not the dinky 83 deg. temperature. That just 5 degrees off from the average household A/C.
I think too many people take low humidity for granted, especially northerners. They think if its 90 deg. with 30% humidity, its "hot", just because 90 deg. is a high #. Even 100 deg. isnt shit, unless you got the humidity.
As I post this:
Phoenix Arizona - 86 degrees. with 22% humidity = AINT SHIT
Cairo Egypt - 92 degrees, 42% humidity = AINT SHIT
Athens Greece - 83 deg. 43% humidity = AINT SHIT
Houston, Texas - 84 degrees - 77% humidity = SHIT
we see that kind of humidity everyday, with temps at 94+ average in august. You cant walk 10 feet without your balls sweatin. Take a hot shower, and stay in there after, thats literally, what it feels like.
ill take dry heat any day over humidity
yeah i was talking to my best friend who's out in ithica NY for college as a frosh and she asked me to check the weather, 80 degreesish and 100% humidity for at least the next 3 or 4 days
now that fucking sucks

I was in Houston a copule weeks ago and wow, that was the shittiest weather I have ever been in. I was sweating so bad after just being outside for a few minutes.

Not all the people in the world live in such areas, do they. Of course it's going to affect them.
People who live in these conditions don't care, they're used to it. But when it gets a little more humid than normal in places...people can't stand it. Then again, people are always complaining about the weather.
well, thats the thing, nobody really gets used to it, you pretty much cope. Its very hard to get used to stinking 20 min. after every shower, unless you work outdoors.
Eitherway, Its a huge issue in this town, and its the FIRST thing out of towners mention when they visit.
i live in a dry heat palace, vegas. ONce it gets over 110... humidity doesn't matter, it is farkin hot as hell.

I lived in New Orleans for almost 6 years, and never got used to the humidity.
ill take 110 dry heat over 80 degrees with heat index of 110 due to humidity any day.
well take it from a Canadian dude who's been travalling to Greece a couple of years ago, what SportTrance says is absolutely true.. there is a HUGE difference in temperature, here the humidity makes a mild 25 degrees Celcius suffocating, but over there, it can be 40 degrees and it wont feel like it, you are perfectly comfortable outdoor

You think 84 with 77% humidty is bad? Last July I visited my grandparents in Redding, CA. The first day we were there it was 110 with about a 60-65 dewpoint. My grandad says the day before it was just as hot and the dewpoint was 75.
Now, I'm very tolerant to the heat. But I couldn't fucking bear to be outside more than a minute or two, just standing around. It was simply ridiculous.
keke i was a little cranky when i made this post, but I think for good reason. The american announcers sometimes are just, i dunno, they're just sound dumb sometimes, desperate for any type of drama. Whats new.
I guess what really triggered it was what my friend said the other day. He knows im greek, and so we're watching a track 3000m race or whatever......and im like "that shits tough", and he's all "yeah, its really hot over there too". I ofcourse responded explaining how their idea of hot is our idea of cool etc.
but yeah, the difference is incredible.
its really why I like southern california so much, the weather and even the scenery reminds me so much of greece
