August 29th
50 CENT BOOED OFFSTAGE IN A RAIN OF PLASTIC BOTTLES

50 CENT was dramatically booed off stage tonight at the CARLING WEEKEND: READING festival (August 29).

The rapper was pelted with a shower of plastic bottles from the angry crowd, and even had a camping chair thrown at him, forcing the star to walk off after just twenty five minutes of his Main Stage set.

50 and his G-Unit crew were hit by a rain of bottles as they came onstage, and they even started to pick up the missiles and hurl them back towards the front rows.

Chants of 50 Cent is a wanker were heard and the group were jeered and heckled throughout the short appearance.

50, joined on stage by his G-Unit crew, endured a mixed reception at first on a stage that saw predominately rock bands over the course of the day.

However, boos from the crowd were soon inaudible over cheers as 50 and crew kicked off with material from debut album Get Rich Or Die Tryin.

Tickertape rained down on the audience during the opening bars to In Da Club, while 50 stripped down to his trousers during Girl'.

The stripping continued during the shows finale, as 50 threw his shoes into the audience to the sounds of gun shots. After undoing his belt and opening his trousers, the controversial rapper then left the stage and went straight back to the tour bus.

Attempting to placate the thousands of people, the rapper said: Were just all here to have fun, and even taunted them by challenging them to all put their middle fingers in the air.

One festival goer told NME.COM: What was he even doing up there? It was the worst thing Ive ever seen.

After playing hits including In Da Club, 21 Questions and P.I.M.P, 50 thanked the crowd and promptly walked off.

The star started his set at 8.10pm, twenty minutes earlier than scheduled, and left at 8.35pm. According to the stage times, he was due to play between 8.30pm and 9.30pm.

What disgraceful behaviour, no artist deserves to get stuff thrown at when they perform

Posted by BelgianGuru on Aug-30-2004 16:22:

Having shot a bunch of people and putting a beat behind shit ass lyrics doesn't make you an artist.

actually, i think HE's the one who got shot a couple times; not him shooting others. but anyways, i agree with Frase, even if u don't like his music, u have to respect them as artists. what if artists like mos def, or talib kweli, or j5 went up on stage? those are quality hip hop artists. hip hop is definitely something that should not be looked down upon.

Unfortunately for you, it does make you an artist, its music at the end of the day, I dont like it as much as the next person

No matter what no artist deserves to have to put up with that kinda immature behaviour

Posted by Floorfiller on Aug-30-2004 17:14:

you can find him in the club...getting his ass kicked by the audience...that's hilarious...you brits got the right idea hahaha

Posted by tc-fan on Aug-30-2004 17:18:

OMFG this thread made my day.....all these crappers err mean rappers think they could spread their horrible music anywhere they go...good for him...i would even be happy if they shot his ass on stage...and i mean it...i fucking their shit with a passion...and i aint rasist...i just dont consider their shit music...

That doesn't make you an artist, that makes you a product, or a walking commercial or something, but not an artist. An artist performs an art, hence the 'art' in artist. I appreciate some hip hop, what he (and almost every other mainstream rapper nowadays) does is a disgrace to music. If he is anything, let's say he's an actor (or poser ).

Again thats opinion, i dont like the music that he does. I dispise it as much as the next person, but he generates sales, may not be an artist in your eyes but he gets booked for being one and sells music for it.

No point going into the in's and out etc but he doesnt deserve this kind of behaviour. No one does. Fact.

Posted by BelgianGuru on Aug-30-2004 17:43:

Yes ok to the behaviour thing then. But the nazis also said shitler was the messias, that doesn't mean he actually IS the messias. You see what I mean ? Being an artist is more then having your face on the cd cover, that's not just my opinion, that's pretty much every artist's opinion.

Posted by trancintaiwan on Aug-30-2004 18:08:

and u people actually get angry when people talk trash about trance or edm. THAT makes me laugh. if u don't respect other music, how do you expect others to give you that same respect

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Aug-30-2004 18:08:

I never get why hip-hop artists play to big crowds, hip-hop isn't really the kind of music you can get a big crowd going with, which is probably why his performance didn't match the rock groups playing.

Its horses for courses really, those that enjoy the music he plays would be dancing to it im sure.

However ill say it again, the behaviour is whats in focus here not 50 Cent. He was doing was he was expected to. The crowd behaved like total tossers

Memories of Daphne & Celeste playing the main stage at Reading come to mind. They had wheelchairs thrown at them!
