A lot of Dave Clarke tunes, like The Compass.

Posted by Torley Wong on Sep-01-2004 03:17:

I don't personally care for it compared to, say, "Orange Minus" (a brilliant jaunt in posttechno deconstructionism), but I recognize its popularity: Plastikman's "Spastik" is a paragon of the form. Model 500's "No UFOs", as Andy mentioned earlier, is a hallmark of minimal techyness as well, and it comes from a day when the beats weren't perfectly aligned and all that asynchronicity made the music feel filthy and... surprisingly LIVE. Underground Resistance continues this today with things like riffs that are the audio equivalent of massive slabs of steel falling on top of the rhythm bedrock with nary a hint of quantization. Mmm.

Speaking of UR, how about this one:

DJ Rolando - Knights of the Jaguar

Plastikman - Spastik
++

will add some tunes later

When I think of what are the most well-known tracks, that have had the most influence, I agree with tracks such as

Rolando - Knights of the jaguar
Umek - Gatex
Plastikman - Spastik
Rhythm is rhythm - Strings of life
Richie Hawtin - Minus Orange
Devilfish - Man alive
Johannes Heil - Paranoid dancer
Speedy J - Pullover

etc. Most of them are not really old but are well-known to lots of people.

For my personal taste, I prefer the deeper stuff from the likes of Jeff Bennett, Aril Brikha, Christian Lindner, Rob Acid and so on.. But I don't think those tracks are going to end up in some top 30, other than my own.

Posted by chesco on Sep-01-2004 09:34:

there really are so many

plastikman - spastik
richie hawtin - minus orange

dave clarke - b4 I was so rudely interupted

jeff mills - the bells

sven vath - design music (sven vath remix)

alexander kowaslki - response and echoes (albums)

christian morgenster - hawaii blue

not sure if you'd class it as techno, but; strings of life is a great tune.

you could go on forever.

More recently tho:

Ricardo vilalobos - alcachofa
misc - flow control

It is widely accepted to be one of the most influential techno tracks.. It may sound a bit housey, but so do most of, if not all releases on the UR label, that's just a part of their style.

UR started releasing records when the difference between house and techno was not even significant (imo..)

And I think there is no real boundary between house and techno, both styles have got a lot in common and can be combined very well. Thinking in narrow genres is for the uncreative people anyway.

Rythim Is Rythim - Icon
Jeff Mills - The Bells
Rythim Is Rythim - Strings Of Life

No mention of DDR & The Geezer - Mad Cows On Acid as yet - that deserves to be up there. Plus what about Joey Beltram - Energy Flash?

Posted by Radagast on Sep-01-2004 17:42:

If you think there are no real boundaries between techno and house, you probably don't listen to house.
